  • Patent number: 5851168
Abstract: A roll for a rolling mechanism includes a carrier and a roll jacket surrounding the latter which is rotatably journalled on the carrier by bearings arranged at a distance from another. Hydrostatic and/or hydrodynamic support elements are provided between the bearing by which the roll jacket is additionally supported on the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5730376
Abstract: The invention is directed to a processing apparatus which can be used, for example, to disperse highly consistent fibrous paper substances. The apparatus consists of at least two intermeshed processing tools (1, 2), which are movable with respect to one another and which are provided with teeth (3, 3', 3", 4, 4"). The fibrous substance that is being processed passes along a gap between the processing tools and finally leaves the apparatus through an expulsion mechanism (8) that allows the adjustment of the size of the exit opening through which the substance exits. The control of the size of the exit opening allows control over the degree of compression acting on the substance and the fill level of the apparatus, both of which in effect control the process intensity.

  • Patent number: 5727743
Abstract: Treatment tools for the mechanical treatment of high-consistency fibrous material, and preferably for dispersing waste paper. The treatment tools are provided with teeth and are moved past one another with tight spacing so that the fibrous material disposed between treatment tool may be subjected to high shearing forces. Because of the intense loading of the teeth, the teeth may be arranged together in groups. The groups established according to at least two different, predetermined axial length gaps between each of the teeth of the treatment tools. As a result, a higher mechanical strength of the teeth is achieved and a large through flow area is offered for the material to be treated.

  • Patent number: 5673616
Abstract: Apparatus for treatment of a fiber material web with a press gap formed by rolls, wherein at least one of the rolls comprises an adjustable deflection roll with a flexible roll jacket supported in the pressing force plane on a plurality of support elements. A plurality of independent pressing force correction sections that at least substantially do not influence one another are formed over the length of the press gap by the cooperation of the support elements, in particular, hydraulic support elements and associated sections of a roll jacket having inadequate compliance. Preferably the width of the individual correction sections along the press gap lies in the region of 25 mm to 130 mm, and preferably amounts to approximately 50 mm.

  • Patent number: 5533443
Abstract: A method which influences the thickness and gloss and/or smoothness in the treatment of fiber material webs in at least one press gap formed by rolls, wherein at least one adjustable deflection roll is used and a plurality of correction sections is provided over the press gap length which can be differently influenced with respect to temperature and/or pressure, and wherein, for the decoupling of the two correction procedures possible pressing force changes in the correction sections of the press gap resulting from local changes in diameter of the relevant roll caused by changes of the surface temperature are at least substantially prevented with the support elements and jacket.

  • Patent number: 5285844
Abstract: Heating or cooling roll having a roll jacket with axially running peripheral borings at the roll ends, where the borings are connected via a fixed ring shaped part which is sealed against the roll jacket, to each other and/or with the feed-in or feed-out lines of the heat carrying fluid which are mounted outside of the roll. With this simply constructed device, the feeding in and out of the heat carrying fluid is made possible, even for rolls which have a roll jacket which is shiftable in the pressure plane.

  • Patent number: 5231924
Abstract: In a calender or roll frame, apparatus is provided for the vertical adjustment of the rolls which are journalled in bearing housings (2) and also vertically displaceably connected with the roll frame (5) via sliding supports (3) and guides (4). The connection between each sliding support and the roll frame (5) takes place via a threaded spindle (7) with a nut (8) without self-locking and also via a housing (9). The nut (8) has at its inner surface (10) a toothed arrangement (11) and the housing (5) has a further toothed arrangement (13) at its inner surface confronting the toothed end face of the nut. The nut (8) and the housing (9) can be moved relative to one another by a switching piece (14) which determines whether the toothed arrangements are meshed or disengaged. In the disengaged state the rolls can move downwards under their own weight.

  • Patent number: 5179894
Abstract: In a calender (1) one or several rollers (2) can be positioned by being raised or lowered jointly with the roller stack disposed therebelow; and vertically displaceable sliding members (3) connected with the roller journals are jointly driven, and are blocked when the roller to be positioned (2) is adjacent the desired working position by way of a separate fixation device (6) supported on the frame (4). In a development of the method the rollers are brought in a desired working position after blocking of the fixation device.

  • Patent number: 4989825
Abstract: Support components or supports for supporting calender rolls for treating web-shaped materials comprise walls which surround a roll stand of the calender and are slidably arranged at guideways provided at the roll stand. Each support component supports an associated calender roll having a predetermined diameter, and a predetermined support length of each support component in a predetermined direction of the guideways is greater than the predetermined diameter of the associated calender roll. The walls of adjacent support components define a predetermined numbr of pairs of mutually facing edges. At least one pair of mutually facing edges between two adjacent support components contains projections and complementary shaped recesses. When such two adjacent support components are slidably displaced toward one another, the projections extend into the correspondingly structured complementary shaped recesses.

  • Patent number: 4890551
Abstract: The roll calender containing superimposed rolls is provided with base elements which are vertically adjustable at the roll stand and in which there are pivotably mounted movable substantially lever-shaped elements. The roll bearings of the rolls of the roll calender are located at the ends of the movable substantially lever-shaped elements. Between the base elements and the movable substantially lever-shaped elements there are arranged force-applying elements which serve for compensation of overhanging loads. There are also provided stops against which the movable substantially lever-shaped elements are supported when the roll calender is opened or nip relieved.

  • Patent number: 4597275
Abstract: The calender comprises a predetermined number of rolls and at least one of the rolls, for example, the outer roll or the lowest roll of such predetermined number of rolls is structured as a tubular roll or controlled deflection roll comprising a stationary roll support member or beam and a roll shell which rotates about the stationary roll support member and is supported thereat. A position sensor determines the position of the roll shell which is regulated with respect to predetermined reference values by a regulating device. A pre-selected number of different reference values for the position of the roll shell are provided and by selecting an appropriate one of these reference values there is achieved the result that different numbers of the predetermined number of rolls are operative while the remaining rolls of such predetermined number of rolls bear against related stops so that their related roll nips or gaps remain open.
