  • Patent number: 5293817
Abstract: To permit elimination of dampening rollers or an entire dampener in a lithographic, preferably offset printing machine, the printing form is formed as a cylindrical sleeve or jacket (3) fitted over a core (2), in which the cylindrical sleeve or jacket is formed with a plurality of interconnected pores (5), essentially uniformly distributed over the surface (4) and forming, within the sleeve or jacket, a connected pore fluid transfer network. Dampening fluid is then applied to the interior of the sleeve or jacket, for example from a chamber (6) between the cylindrical core (2) and the inner surface of the sleeve or jacket. The outer surface (4) can be imaged with oleophilic substances, for example by a thermal transfer process. To remove the images, for re-use of the printing form without removal from a printing machine, hot gases for example steam can be applied to the interior of the sleeve or jacket, so that the oleophilic substances at the outside will loosen for easy removal, or spall off.

  • Patent number: 5217166
Abstract: In a rotor nozzle for a high-pressure cleaning device comprising a housing, a rotor rotatably mounted therein and set in rotation by a cleaning liquid, and a nozzle arranged downstream of the rotor with its outlet axis including a variable, acute angle with the axis of rotation of the rotor and rotated by the rotor about the axis of rotation thereof so that the jet of cleaning liquid issuing from it flows around the lateral area of a cone, to enable adjustment of the outlet angle of the point jet without having to change any other parameters, it is proposed that adjustable stops be arranged in the housing to limit to a greater or lesser extent the widening of the acute angle between the outlet axis of the nozzle and the axis of rotation of the rotor in accordance with the position of the limiting elements.

  • Patent number: 5170711
Abstract: The values ascertained from printer's copies (8, 9), for ink zone presetting, are supplied to a color supply detection computer (3) via a film/plate scanner (4). Before the various scanning areas in accordance with scanning patterns (7) are summed up, the zonal preset values ascertained by the ink supply detection computer (3) undergo a correction in accordance with the value furnished by a weighting computer (16) for each scanning area. This optimizes the presetting of the ink zones. As a function of the corrected values taking the subject to be printed into account, ductor rollers (22) and rubber rollers (21) can be controlled in order to improve the ink penetration as a function of the subject in the circumferential direction as well.

  • Patent number: 5154121
Abstract: To apply the negative of an image to be printed to a printing form (1, 1701), the receptors or cells (7, 1704) of the printing form are first made to have the maximum size required for transfer of the necessary quantity of ink to a substrate (12) and the cells are then, selectively, filled with a flowable, solidifiable substance (9, 1704a), in accordance with the printed image. The quantity of substance (9) introduced into gravure cells (7) can be inversely proportional to the quantity of ink to be transferred to the substrate (12) and injected, for example by a spray of ink jet device similar to an ink jet printer, into the cells under control of a control unit (M), the melted substance solidifying upon contact with the gravure form (1). In a screen printing from, the substance can fill the interstices of the screen, forming the cells (1704).

  • Patent number: 5072671
Abstract: To apply a printed image on a printing form, a transfer tape is passed under a recording head, the transfer tape receiving, upon application of energy to the recording head, substance particles which change the surface of the printing form to have, respectively, ink accepting and ink repellent surface areas or, respectively, to fill the cells of a gravure cylinder, the transfer tape then being applied against the printing form and the substance particles therefrom being transferred to the printing form under influence of heat, or other energy, e.g. electrostatic or electromagnetic. Recording on the transfer tape, under control of an electronic control unit, can be carried out on a point-by-point or line-by-line basis at a recording speed which is slow with respect to the speed of operation of the reproducing head applying the substance particles to the printed form, so that information can be stored on the tape while a previously prepared printing form can print on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5069124
Abstract: During start-up or run-on of a printing machine, a printed image is transferred from a printing cylinder (2, 24, 34) on a control or test cylinder (5, 26, 35) which has a surface representative of the surface of a substrate (6, 25, 33) on which printing, later on, is to be effected, for example a white ceramic surface of roughness comparable to that of paper. The image transferred on the control or test cylinder is optically tested while the cylinder rotates over a first partial circumferential range (7, 27, 36), and data derived, either by human observation or by electro-optical sensors (8, 28, 37) to permit readjustment of operating systems of the printing machine in accordance with desired operating parameters, such as register, inking density, ink/damping fluid relationship in offset processes or the like.

  • Patent number: 5042199
Abstract: A prefabricated window system includes a main frame which is fabricated from thermoplastic elements having substantially the same cross-sectional configuration. Windows and a screen are slideably mounted in the main frame. A thermoplastic sill is snap-connected to the bottom portion of the frame and a decorative cover is snap-connected to the top portion. Stop elements, having the same cross-sectional configuration as the cover element, are snap-connected to the side portions of the frame in order to prevent the windows from being raised or lowered too far. The windows can be pivoted for cleaning, and the frame includes portions which overlap the outer peripheries of the windows to prevent them from inadvertently being rotated outward. These portions also reduce air incursion. A latch is mounted on one window and a keeper which cooperates with the latch is mounted on the other, the keeper being firmly mounted in the window sill by upwardly extending screws.
