  • Patent number: 6442987
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a shaft from a piece of tubing having at least one bulging portion. The method enables shafts with bulging portions to be cheaply and practicably produced. The piece of tubing bears radially against a portion adjoining the zone of the bulging portion to be produced. The piece of tubing is subjected to internal pressure which is maintained throughout the entire molding operation. The piece of tubing is acted upon by an axially operative compressive force co-operating with the internal pressure so that a portion of tubing adjoining the radially borne portion is upset so that the external diameter of the upset piece of tubing is larger than the external diameter on the unupset piece of tubing. A molding tool, having a hollow portion corresponding to the final shape of the bulging portion to be produced, is then applied to the upset piece of tubing. The bulging portion is formed by the application of radially operative compressive forces by means of the molding tool.

  • Patent number: 5988484
Abstract: A method of manufacturing clad tubular product from a hollow carbon steel billet having an inner diameter and a hollow corrosion resistant alloy billet having an outer diameter, comprising the steps of: machining the inner diameter of the hollow carbon billet and the outer diameter of the hollow corrosion resistant alloy billet to result in an interference fit between the two billets at room temperature when the corrosion resistant billow is placed inside the carbon billet; heating the hollow carbon billet in a furnace until the carbon billet reaches a temperature in the range of approximately 400.degree. F. to about 850.degree. F.; inserting the corrosion resistant billet inside of the hollow carbon billet while the carbon billet is at a temperature in the range of approximately 400.degree. F. to about 850.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 5940951
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of cladded metal pipes facilitates joining of a tube blank and a coaxially disposed pipe section received therein, for subsequent extrusion of a resultant tube blank-pipe combination to form an internally-clad pipe of desired dimension. The pipe section, which is inserted into the tube blank, is expanded radially by internally directed pressure, while force is axially applied to maintain the expansion of the pipe section following removal of the applied internal pressure and axial force. A mechanically joined tube blank-pipe combination thus formed is extruded to form a finished pipe of desired profile in which a diffusion bond is present between material layers comprising the internally-clad pipe corresponding to the pipe section and the tube blank.
