Publication number: 20240000523Abstract: An adaptive robot-assisted system and a method for evaluating the position of the trocar in a robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery intervention are proposed. The system comprises a surgical robot with robotic arms, each arm securing, by means of passive joints, a surgical instrument suitable for being coupled to a trocar. The system also comprises a control unit, a command station, and sensors for measuring angles ? and ? of the axes of rotation of the passive joints. The control unit performs a dynamic estimation of the position of a trocar by comparing, for each of the movements of the surgical instrument in the abdominal cavity, the measured angles ? and ? with the theoretical angles ? and ?, and performs a correction of a parameter ? by positively or negatively increasing it in each of said movements according to the sign value of the error obtained in the comparison.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2021Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: Rob Surgical Systems, SLInventor: Josep Amat Girbau

Publication number: 20230218358Abstract: The present invention proposes a sensory perception system for robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. The invention comprises an electrosurgical forceps coupled to a surgical tool, an electrocautery radiofrequency signal generator and an impedance measurement circuit. The latter includes a measurement sensor for measuring a signal indicative of a magnitude corresponding to the value of contact impedance between the forceps and a patient's tissue; an oscillator; a first electrical circuit with resistors and a voltage limiter for protecting the measurement sensor and the oscillator; and a second electronic circuit with switches. The sensor and the oscillator are connected to the forceps by means of a power cable of the surgical tool. A processor connected to the measurement circuit receives said measured signal and converts same into a force vector, the modulus of which is a function of the contact impedance being measured and the argument is a function of the trajectory being followed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2021Publication date: July 13, 2023Applicant: Rob Surgical Systems, SLInventor: Josep Amat Girbau

Patent number: 9700381Abstract: Laparoscopic surgical pliers include jaws mounted on a rotating body and first and second transmissions each including at least one tendon including several cables, and each transmission adapted to transmit movement of the jaws and the rotating body, respectively. The tendons of the first and second transmissions are each respectively formed of several cables arranged so that a cross-section of at least one tendon associated with the first transmission has a variable geometry therealong formed by a first arrangement in which the cables are arranged, in cross-section, with their longitudinal axes in a radial distribution, a second arrangement in which said axes are arranged in a first orientation, and a third arrangement in which said axes are arranged in a second orientation, perpendicular to the first orientation.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2010Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: UNIVERSITAT POLITECNICA DE CATALUNYAInventor: Josep Amat Girbau

Patent number: 9119653Abstract: It comprises a supporting structure in which at least one arm is slidably attached. Each arm comprises first and second members hinged to each other. The first member is rotatably hinged to the supporting structure and it can be rotated about a longitudinal axis and the second member may receive a joint having at least two degrees of freedom for attaching a tool. The longitudinal axis of the first member is substantially perpendicular to an axis joining the first member and the second member to each other. A simplified architecture is obtained allowing for accurate and efficient spatial movement of the tool holding arm.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2010Date of Patent: September 1, 2015Assignee: UNIVERSITAT POLITECNICA DE CATALUNYAInventors: Josep Amat Girbau, Alicia Casals Gelpi, Manel Frigola Bourlon
