Patent number: 10827844Abstract: An air inflatable mattress and mattress coverlet are provided for the prevention and treatment of decubitus ulcers (i.e., pressure sores or bedsores). The mattress incorporates a user selectable static or alternating air powered support surface for more uniformly redistributing pressure exerted on a patient's skin. The mattress coverlet encompasses a low air loss feature independent of the mattress's user selectable air powered support surface. Such low air loss feature provides a patient contact surface exhibiting a high moisture vapor transfer ratio in conjunction with a forced air flow to aid in reducing the moisture and heat near the patient's body. Both the mattress and mattress coverlet are driven by an external control system which houses the user controls, as well as the necessary pumps, regulators, and valving.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2016Date of Patent: November 10, 2020Assignee: Span-America Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Wanda C. McKnight, Richard W. Raburn, Russell J. Weston, Joseph A. Benedict

Publication number: 20200278248Abstract: A waveguide spectrometer includes at least one substrate layer with at least one surface waveguide extending from an inlet face to guide the received light; at least one evanescent field sampler in the waveguide to out-couple light along the waveguide; at least one light sensing unit to detect the out-coupled light, each electrically connected to an electronic read out system; and means to achieve counter propagating optical signals inside the waveguide to obtain interference between the counter propagating optical signals generating an interference pattern along the waveguide. A compact and simple construction with improved spectral range/bandwidth of the spectrometer can be achieved with at least one modulator integrated into the sampling waveguide structure to enable conditioning of the guided optical signals and for changing the refractive index. The integrated modulator is realized by electrodes placed aside directly neighboured to the guiding core resp.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 4, 2017Publication date: September 3, 2020Applicant: MICOS ENGINEERING GMBHInventors: Joseph Benedict GULDIMANN, Mohammadreza MADI, Edoardo ALBERTI

Publication number: 20140259879Abstract: Method and apparatus for killing target pests using strategically designed moats. The moats are constructed of barrier material that is difficult for the target pests to traverse, material that is easy for the target pests to traverse, and killing material, which tends to kill the target pests after they have made adequate contact with it. These elements are strategically positioned so that target pests that are attracted to a bait travel along a long zigzag path parallel to the barrier material and, hence, a long zigzag path along killing material held by the material that is easy for the target pests to traverse and along any killing material contained in a strategically positioned furrow. Moat system embodiments that provide selective access to baits and/or killing material are disclosed. Several examples are provided demonstrating applications to bed bugs, and explanation is provided for how to apply the invention to other pests.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Inventor: Joseph Benedict Logsdon

Patent number: 6256822Abstract: A patient support system is provided with side bolster features for improved patient safety and control. A multi component mattress includes a resilient foam core having associated therewith two side bolsters of a less compressible resilient material. Each side bolster forms two peaks with a saddle therebetween to prevent a patient from rolling off the mattress while still providing direct entry and exit access to the mattress. A foam topper may be applied across the top of the exposed core and the upper portion of the side bolsters. Such topper may include parallel ridges, as well as perpendicular segmentations to improve pressure dispersion. The total coverage topper or upper layer surface adds to usable patient support area for the mattress while otherwise minimizing the pressure from the less compressible bolster elements.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2000Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Span-America Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Russell J. Patent number: 4076137Abstract: The device for handling large round bales includes an elongated frame having a pair of transversely spaced longitudinal side ramps movable to a lowered position below opposite side portions of a ground supported bale and engageable with such side portions to load the bale when the frame is elevated. One side of the frame is connectable to a tractor to provide for an unobstructed bale passage means between the side ramps. Bales can be successively loaded on the ramps, and then successively unloaded while moving the bale handling device in a forward direction.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1976Date of Patent: February 28, 1978Assignee: Rudolph L.
