  • Patent number: 4188471
Abstract: A particulate catalyst support such as silica or a silica-titania cogel is impregnated with a titanium compound from a nonaqueous solution and the resulting composition heated to activation temperature and thereafter impregnated with a .pi. bonded organochromium compound. Finally the chromium-containing support is heated to reactivate same. Such catalysts are particularly suitable for polymerizing at least one mono-1-olefin containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms per molecule.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1974
Date of Patent: February 12, 1980
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: Benny E. Nasser, Jr., Joseph A. Delap
  • Patent number: 4014816
Abstract: Olefins are polymerized with a catalyst which forms on mixing a supported chromium oxide composite and a silane adjuvant. This system allows the production of polymer of a given melt index at a higher temperature, thus increasing the production rate and is of particular utility in solution polymerizations designed to produce ethylene polymers and copolymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 16, 1975
Date of Patent: March 29, 1977
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: John P. Hogan, Benny E. Nasser, Joseph A. Delap
  • Patent number: 3976632
Abstract: A particulate catalyst support containing titanium is heated to calcination temperature and thereafter impregnated with a .pi. bonded organochromium compound. Thereafter the chromium-containing support is reactivated, at least a portion of the reactivation occurring in the presence of oxygen. In one embodiment at least 2 percent solvent is present as the catalyst is reactivated at approximately room temperature. In an alternate embodiment the support is calcined at a temperature within the range of 1450.degree. to 1650.degree.F. Such catalysts are particularly suitable for the production of high melt index polymer from at least one mono-1-olefin containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms per molecule.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1974
Date of Patent: August 24, 1976
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company

  • Patent number: 3951863
Abstract: A method of converting a hydrogel to a xerogel by passing a hydrogel and an organic liquid in which water is soluble in countercurrent contact to remove the water from the hydrogel. The solution of organic liquid and water which is formed is allowed to separate into two phases and the organic liquid is recycled back into contact with the hydrogel.
