  • Patent number: 11287239
Abstract: A fast utility access device (FUAD) is provided that includes one or more casings, each of the one or more casings collectively defining a bore, and a core of a highly exothermic composition contained in the bore and surrounded by a thermally insulating inner liner, the highly exothermic composition ignitable to create a post-ignition temperature of between 500° C. and 4000° C. A method is also provided for breaching a target and includes contacting the inventive access device with a breaching target substrate, thermally coupling at least one reaction initiator to the highly exothermic composition, triggering the at least one reaction initiator thereby igniting the highly exothermic composition, and allowing the highly exothermic composition to achieve a post-ignition temperature sufficient to melt the breaching target substrate, forming a hole therethrough.

  • Patent number: 9448047
Abstract: A selectable color smoke grenade for producing different color smokes from a single grenade canister. Each grenade canister includes an upper chamber that holds gas producing material and a fuze, one or more dye chambers with dye containing compartments and bypass chambers, a plug positioned between the one or more dye chambers and the upper chamber, and a mixing chamber to receive smoke from the one or more dye chambers and having holes to release the smoke to the environment. Each dye chamber has one or more compartments containing a different color dye. Holes in the plug are used to selectively channel the gases from the upper chamber into one or more of the dye containing compartments. Color selectivity is achieved by changing the alignment between the holes in the plug and the dye containing compartments by rotating the plug and dye chamber relative to each other about a common axis.

  • Patent number: 9046508
Abstract: The present invention can be characterized as a trainer kit for a Colorimetric Reconnaissance Explosive Squad Screening (“CRESS”) kit, which contains a control compound and a set of simulated explosive compositions (“SEC”). The control compound contains no explosive precursor, while each SEC is a combination of one or more explosive precursors that is to be detected by CRESS, and at least one non-explosive additive that reduces the kinetics of the explosive precursor. The SEC retains the colorimetric characteristics of the explosive precursor, but is stable in heat and non-hazardous.

  • Patent number: 8955442
Abstract: A flameless smoke pot and a method of generating smoke using the smoke pot. The smoke pot includes a casing having a side wall with an inlet openings and containing a plurality of perforated tubes containing red phosphorous pellets. A heat generating pyrotechnic composition is disposed at a first end of the casing to generate heat which flows through the perforated tubes containing red phosphorous pellets to produce white phosphoric acid clouds of smoke. The white phosphoric acid clouds of smoke are combined with atmospheric an containing water to generate the white phosphoric acid clouds of aerosol smoke. The white phosphoric acid clouds of aerosol smoke are directed through a perforated flame arrester whereby visible flame is prevented from being created.
