  • Patent number: 4896815
Abstract: A combination of unique properties of (i) high strength and stiffness at temperatures up to about 1500.degree. F., (ii) good room temperature mechanical properties including good ductility and (iii) improved resistance to matrix cracking is achieved in a titanium structure by forming a hybrid titanium alloy matrix composite in which the matrix consists of layers of at least two alloys, i.e. a high temperature-resistant titanium aluminide alloy and a ductile, lower modulus titanium alloy, that are bonded metallurgically to each other in various embodiments. A reinforcing material in the form of filaments, fibers or whiskers, e.g. silicon carbide, can be embedded within either or both types of the titanium layers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1988
Date of Patent: January 30, 1990
    Assignee: Avco Lycoming
Inventors: Dan G. Rosenthal, Joseph A. Goebel

  • Patent number: 4550524
Abstract: A rodent trap characterized by a rodent receiving chamber, a partition selectively movable across the chamber in a rodent eradicating relationship, a movable floor portion continually urged to an overlying position with respect to a rodent receiving tray, where the floor portion moves with the partition and cam action releases the floor portion to the aforesaid overlying position. A pressure sensitive switch holds the rodent bait and initiates sequential operation. The trap further employs a two-way solenoid for partition movement and a one-way gearing arrangement for selective floor portion position control.

  • Patent number: 4371570
Abstract: A coated article and method for producing the coated article are described. The article is provided with a coating system which provides protection against hot corrosion at moderate temperatures (1200-1700.degree. F.). An overlay coating based on a metal selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel or cobalt or mixtures thereof and containing chromium and optionally aluminum, yttrium and/or hafnium is applied to the article to be protected. A silicon rich surface zone is produced at the surface of the overlay coating. Methods including pack cementation and physical vapor deposition are described for producing the coating.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 1, 1982
Date of Patent: February 1, 1983
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Joseph A. Goebel, Richard H. Barkalow, Nicholas E. Ulion
