  • Publication number: 20110052904
Abstract: A pultrusion article and method for manufacturing the same is disclosed. The article has a core of cured thermoset material and foaming agent. Unidirectional fibers are distributed about the periphery of the article. A shell of cured thermoset material encapsulates the unidirectional fibers, with the shell having a greater density than the core. The core and the shell are bonded together. The article provides increased strength without the use of cross-fibers.

  • Publication number: 20080099964
Abstract: A method of thermoforming a container with a well-defined rim, and the container produced thereby. The rim surfaces are defined during the thermoforming process by the surfaces of the mold. The resulting container features a stiffer, stronger rim that is easier to grasp when carrying the container.

  • Patent number: 5941019
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a nursery container for plants and the like. The nursery container includes a bottom, a side wall extending upward from the bottom, and a lip formed on an upper portion of the side wall. A first attachment component formed on the nursery container, preferably on the container lip. The first attachment component mates with a second attachment component for attaching an ancillary or attachable item to the nursery container. In one embodiment of the invention the first attachment component extends through a hole formed in the nursery container and includes a base located on an inside surface of the nursery container. A retaining flange is formed on the first attachment component at a location adjacent the outside surface of the container. The retaining flange and the base prevent the first attachment component from coming out the hole in the container. The first attachment component is preferably a locking member having a channel formed in it.

  • Patent number: 5503886
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a blow molded article and an apparatus and method for blow molding the article. The article contemplated by the present invention includes a recessed lip. The apparatus includes two plates reciprocally movable toward and away from one another. A center ring member and a separating ring are fixedly and perpendicularly mounted on each plate. A mold half is mounted on each plate and is divided into two sections. One section is located on each side of the center ring member and is reciprocally movable toward and away from the center ring member. A first insert member is provided in each mold section in proximity to said center insert member. The first insert has a channel therein for receiving a second insert member. The second insert member is reciprocally movable in said channel and engages the center ring member.

  • Patent number: 5364675
Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a blow molded article having a deep recessed lip wherein the lip includes a folded reinforcing layer adjacent a hollow U-shaped portion. The reinforcing layer is formed by the parison folding over on itself in the mold while forming the U-shaped lip. The folded portions are pinched together within the mold and are welded to one another. At various portions around the circumference of the lip, vents are inserted to relieve the pressure within the lip during release of the internal pressure within the molded article.
