  • Publication number: 20130062204
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for reducing elasto-capillary coalescence of nanostructures. In one embodiment, a method includes providing a plurality of wet nanostructures on an electrode with a counter electrode positioned in air opposite the wet nanostructures. An electric field is applied between the counter electrode and the wet nanostructures using a voltage source, thereby reducing aggregation of the nanostructures. In another embodiment, an elasto-capillary coalescence reduction apparatus includes an electrode configured to receive a plurality of wet nanostructures, a counter electrode positioned in air opposite the wet nanostructures, and a voltage source coupled to the electrode and the counter electrode. The voltage source is configured to apply an electric field across the electrode and the nanostructures, which causes each of the nanostructures to repel a neighboring nanostructure.

  • Patent number: 7930228
Abstract: Various methods for allowing a due diligence service provider to assist a financial institution with a regulatory or statutory compliance requirement are disclosed. The method may include receiving data from at least one recordkeeping system operatively associated with client accounts of the financial institution, wherein the account data include at least one account of a foreign financial institution; reviewing the account data to identify at least one foreign correspondent account which triggers at least one regulatory or statutory compliance requirement; eliminating account records not associated with a foreign financial institution; and, validating at least part of the account data by communicating a supplemental application to a client of the financial institution to determine applicability of the compliance requirement to the account data.

  • Publication number: 20090219117
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for a JXP-type plug-in device that may be inserted within existing transmission equipment, such as RF amplifiers and the like, to provide an appropriate amount of flat attenuation to the lower frequencies of signals being processed in the equipment while allowing desired peaking at high frequencies of the same signals to compensate for high-frequency roll-off.

  • Publication number: 20070233339
Abstract: Golf cart movements at a golf course are controlled by a limited access controller that compares a golf cart's GPS-determined position against a limited access map to restrict performance of inputs by the golf cart's driver to the golf cart's motor under predetermined conditions, such as if a golf cart enters or has a predetermined likelihood of entering a limited access area. The limited access controller inhibits motor responses, such as by preventing motor operation, limiting available motor speeds, or allowing motor operation only in a vector that removes the golf cart from the limited access area, such as operation in reverse. Golf carts of a golf course communicate with a base station that updates the limited access map by defining limited access area perimeters and allowable actions within a limited access area and that directly commands allowable motor operations.

  • Patent number: 7049682
Abstract: A transceiver package includes a substrate having an upper surface. An electronic component is mounted to the upper surface of the substrate. A shield encloses the electronic component and shields the electronic component from radiation. The transceiver package further includes an antenna and a dielectric cap. The dielectric cap is interposed between the shield and the antenna, the shield being a ground plane for the antenna.

  • Publication number: 20030032022
Abstract: The discovery of an association between two variants of the human interleukin-1 gene (IL1B) beta promoter region and a variant of the CD46 gene intron 1 and T-helper type 1 immunity in unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss (URPL) is disclosed. These two IL1B variants are characterized by a base C at position-511 (IL1B-511C) and a base T at position-31 (IL1B-31T) from the transcriptional start site of the IL1B gene. The CD46 gene intron 1 variant is characterized by a change in the HindIII site in this intron. These IL1B promoter variants and CD46 gene intron 1 variants, and reagents for detecting said variants, are useful as diagnostic markers for the diagnosis and management of recurrent pregnancy loss. Accordingly, the invention provides methods and compositions which identify these variants for determining a subject's propensity for having reproductive failure and, particularly, reproductive failure attributed to Th1 cytokines.

  • Patent number: 6182665
Abstract: A method for predicting whether a pregnant woman will be able to carry a fetus to viability by determining her immunological responsiveness to recall antigens. Women, particularly women with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortion, who have a responsiveness that is no higher than the responsiveness of women known to have had a successful pregnancy, have a high probability of maintaining gestation until viability.

  • Patent number: 5178294
Abstract: A packaging container particularly suitable for retail sale of pre-prepared foodstuffs comprises an inner generally cup-like portion (2) located substantially entirely within an outer portion (3). The inner portion is formed of a microwave compatible plastics material and is retained within the outer portion e.g. by flaps (12) formed integrally with the outer portion which engage barbs provided on the inner portion. The air gap provided between the inner and outer portions prevents the outer portion from being heated by contact with the food product and accordingly the container can readily be handled after microwave heating of the contents.

  • Patent number: 4159799
Abstract: In fabricating very-high-resolution devices with a lithographic tool such as an EBES machine, it is crucial that the planar mask or wafer members utilized therein be loaded into and maintained in the work chamber of the machine in a way that minimally affects their planarity. In accordance with the present invention this is accomplished by loading each member into a three-point-suspension cassette unit by means of a fixture that performs the loading in a precise and essentially stress-free manner.
