    Abstract: An automotive steering gear includes a transverse steering member and a steering shaft like the steering rack and pinion shaft, respectively, of a rack and pinion steering gear. The steering shaft is operatively connected to the steering member through a bi-directional Chinese Windlass which pulls the steering member in opposite directions depending upon the direction of rotation of the steering shaft.
