  • Patent number: 10503443
Abstract: A method, a computing device, and a non-transitory machine-readable medium for allocating data compression activities in a storage system are provided. A method includes tracking, by a storage controller, computing resources corresponding to a storage server. The storage controller processes one or more host read requests to access data requested by one or more hosts, the processing of the one or more host read requests including decompressing the data requested by the one or more hosts from the storage server and providing the decompressed data to the one or more hosts. The storage controller determines an amount of available computing resources after processing the one or more host read requests. Based on the amount of available computing resources, the storage controller performs inline compression of a first portion of host write requests and background compression of a second portion of the host write requests.

  • Publication number: 20190233741
Abstract: A multi-stage process for reducing the environmental contaminants in a ISO8217 compliant Feedstock Heavy Marine Fuel Oil involving a core desulfurizing process and an Oxidative desulfurizing process as either a pre-treating step or post-treating step to the core process. The Product Heavy Marine Fuel Oil is compliant with ISO 8217A for residual marine fuel oils and has a sulfur level has a maximum sulfur content (ISO 14596 or ISO 8754) between the range of 0.05% wt. to 0.5% wt. A process plant for conducting the process is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10366065
Abstract: A method for mapping a first address space to a second address space is provided. In some embodiments, the method includes creating a first array of lookup entries and one or more second arrays of metadata entries for maintaining an ordering among the lookup entries using a tree structure. Each of the metadata entries includes one or more data index values identifying a corresponding one of the lookup entries by its position in the first array and one or more metadata index values identifying a corresponding one of the metadata entries by its position in one of the one or more second arrays. The method further includes receiving a request including a lookup value, traversing the tree structure to locate a lookup entry corresponding to the lookup value, and when the lookup value is located among the lookup entries, using the located lookup entry to process the request.

  • Patent number: 10360119
Abstract: A system, method, and machine-readable storage medium for recovering data in a distributed storage system are provided. In some embodiments, the method includes identifying a failing storage device of a first storage node having an inaccessible data segment. When it is determined that the inaccessible data segment cannot be recovered using a first data protection scheme, a first chunk of data associated with the inaccessible data segment is identified and a group associated with the first chunk of data is identified. A second chunk of data associated with the group is selectively retrieved from a second storage node such that data associated with an accessible data segment of the first storage node is not retrieved. The inaccessible data segment is recovered by recovering the first chunk of data using a second data protection scheme and the second chunk of data.

  • Publication number: 20190183344
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for taking measurements of a material, including determining material anisotropy, are provided. According to one aspect, a method for determining tissue anisotropy comprises: applying, to a tissue sample, a first force having a direction and having a coronal plane normal to the direction of the force, the first force having an oval or other profile with long and short axes within the coronal plane, the long axis being oriented in a first direction within the coronal plane, and measuring a first displacement of the tissue; applying, to the tissue sample, a second force, and measuring a second displacement of the tissue; and calculating a tissue elasticity anisotropy based on the measured first and second displacements. Furthermore, by applying the first and second forces multiple times, tissue viscosity, elasticity, or other anisotropy may be calculated from the multiple displacement measurements.

  • Publication number: 20190138517
Abstract: A method, a computing device, and a non-transitory machine-readable medium for assessing data segments for garbage collection is provided. In some embodiments, the method includes identifying a plurality of data segments. A first rate at which data within each of the plurality of data segments has been invalidated since a first point in time is determined, and a second rate at which data within each of the plurality of data segments has been invalidated since a second point in time subsequent to the first point in time is determined. The second rate is compared to the first rate for each of the plurality of data segments, and a garbage collection score is assigned to the respective data segment based on the comparison. The garbage collection score may be further based on a utilization of the respective data segment and/or an age of the respective data segment.

  • Patent number: 10225080
Abstract: Quantum networking systems and methods for routing entangled photons pairs are described herein. One quantum networking system includes entangled photon sources which generate entangled photons; optical output ports; a reconfigurable switching network connecting to the entangled photon sources and the output ports, which include a regular repeating structure of optical crossbar switches and interconnections for selectively routing individual ones of entangled photons pairs input to the network to and amongst the outputs; and a control module. The control module is configured to receive a request for entangled photons at the output ports; execute a routing algorithm to determine the state of the switches in the reconfigurable switching network to satisfy the request; and generate and transmit control signals to the switching network in order to set the states of the switches according to the executed routing algorithm. The reconfigurable switching network may be a Beneš or a banyan-type network architecture.
