  • Patent number: 6004566
Abstract: The present invention relates to a delivery system which includes a bioactive drug or cosmetic substance presented in the form of submicron oil spheres alone, or drugs or cosmetic substances in a combination with the oil spheres in an aqueous suspension or emulsion. Optionally, a skin penetration enhancer may be included in such formulations. • Patent number: 5744155
Abstract: The invention relates to an oil-in-water emulsion and related method for administration of a drug to a mucosal surface. The emulsion has an aqueous continuous phase and a plurality of submicron particles having an average particle diameter of from 10 nm to 600 nm, with the particles having a hydrophobic core of a fat or oil which is surrounded by a surfactant layer. The emulsion further includes a drug and a mucoadhesive polymer which is a polymer or copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, a poly(methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride) copolymer, pectin, alginic acid, hyaluronic acid, chitosan, gum tragacanth, karaya gum or carboxymethylcellulose. The hydrophobic core has less than 1% (w/w) protein, relative to the weight of the hydrophobic core, and the emulsion contains less than 5% (w/w) surfactant, relative to the weight of the hydrophobic core.

  • Patent number: 4643378
Abstract: A self-wedging, variable thickness climbing aid for rock climbing. The device includes a wedge-shaped chock to which an anchor cable is affixed with that cable extending from the thin end of the chock with an anchor loop on that end. A roller is attached adjacent one of the broad faces of the chock by means of springs between the ends of the roller and the adjacent sides of the chock. Further, a release cable is attached to each end of the roller for the user to draw the roller down the face of the chock to thin the overall device to permit its insertion or removal from a crack in the rock.

  • Patent number: 4286400
Abstract: A device for displaying an article which comprises a front frame part, a back frame part and a decorative covering over the face of the front frame part and held thereon by reason of clamping engagement of interfitting rims on the two parts with the decorative covering. The parts have aligned openings for viewing the article, such openings being covered by a transparent sheet for protecting the article. Supporting means for the frame assembly is secured to the back part and includes an easel which may have a loop for suspending the frame assembly or includes a stand. The easel or the stand are shaped so as to provide a cavity between it and the back part for receiving the article and the protective sheet.

  • Patent number: 4019331
Abstract: The method of converting clayey or silty soil into stable and solid underground columns or piles suitable for carrying a building structure, comprises first the drilling of bores of a diameter considerably smaller than the external diameter of the column or pile to be created, to a predetermined depth, and secondly directing a focused laser beam gradually across the entire surface of each bore by mechanical and optical means, in such a manner that each point of the bore surface is irradiated and heated at an intensity sufficient for converting the soil surrounding the bore into a solid permanent mass of a predetermined thickness measured from the bore surface, which mass retains its strength and is resistant to moisture and temperature.
