Abstract: The invention relates to coatings, such as paints, containing tobacco products and the use thereof as corrosion inhibitors. The tobacco products include various forms of tobacco such as dried tobacco leaves, stems, dust, liquid extracts, etc, that can be added to the coatings. The invention further relates to treatment methods and compositions for surface treatments such as descaling, pickling and removing surface deposits and corrosion products.

Abstract: Tobacco products such as dried tobacco leaves, stems and dust are added to cementitious materials in order to inhibit corrosion. In one embodiment, the tobacco additions protect steel embedded in Portland cement from corrosive attack. Tobacco is a renewable, potentially inexpensive bioproduct that provides excellent corrosion protection with little or no environmental concerns.

Abstract: The present invention provides compositions of inositol and derivatives and their salts and related compounds which reduce titratable acidity and the erosive potential of a variety of beverages and foodstuffs. Further, as a result of its protective action towards acid attack on dental enamel (hydroxyapatite), its addition to foodstuffs has a protective action towards the hard dental tissues. The compositions also provide protection against other metabolic/degenerative diseases of bones such as osteoporosis. The present invention further provides methods for preventing dental decay and bone degeneration.

Abstract: A method of extracting corrosion inhibiting constituents from tobacco comprises the steps of soaking tobacco in an extraction solution under certain extraction conditions, followed by filtration to remove tobacco residue from the resultant aqueous tobacco solution. This tobacco solution is used as a corrosion inhibitor to minimize the amount of corrosion occurring at galvanic corrosion cells that are established at areas of union of metals having different electrochemical potentials.
