Patent number: 9778080Abstract: Useful and meaningful machine characteristic information may be derived through analysis of oversampled digital data collected using dynamic signal analyzers, such as vibration analyzers. Such data have generally been discarded in prior art systems. In addition to peak values and decimated values, other oversampled values are used that are associated with characteristics of the machine being monitored and the sensors and circuits that gather the data. This provides more useful information than has previously been derived from oversampled data within a sampling interval.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2014Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: Emerson Electric (US) Holding Corporation (Chile) LimitadaInventors: Raymond E. Garvey, III, Joseph A. Vrba, Stewart V. Bowers, III, Robert D. Skeirik, Hermann Holtmannspötter, Michael D. Medley, Kevin Steele, Douglas A. Mann

Patent number: 8648860Abstract: Methods for displaying machine data are described including a method for displaying machine data as a virtual three-dimensional image showing a three-dimensional graph having three axes such that the data in the graph may be rotated about one or more of the axes to give a data analyst a better perspective of the behavior of an item being monitored. In a related embodiment, a method for displaying machine data in a virtual three-dimensional image such that the data may be rotated one or more of the axes is described which further includes one or more cursor images representing substantially planar cursors on the display for analyzing data.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2007Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: CSI Technology, Inc.Inventors: Joseph A. Patent number: 7725274Abstract: A method and apparatus identifies a region of interest of transient vibration data needing analysis and provides context and construction for analytical plots. The method provides transient data, determines a region of interest of the transient data, specifies a construction mode corresponding to a derived graphical display of the transient data, and specifies one or more construction parameters corresponding to the specified construction mode. The method also processes the transient data to produce at least one derived plot based on the transient data, the region of interest, the specified construction mode, and the specified construction parameters. This method may be performed by a graphical tool having a hardware module and a software module. The hardware module including a processor, a memory, a display, and a communicator, and the software module including a plotting module and a plot control module.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2006Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: CSI Technology, Inc.Inventors: Mark William Slemp, Joseph A. Vrba, Leanne Tuggle Metzger, Michael David Rich

Publication number: 20070255749Abstract: A method for extracting, displaying and archiving transient test data is performed by cooperative software applications running on one or more computers, such as a client computer and a server computer. The client sends the server an information request regarding a portion of the transient data. Based on the information request from the client, the server provides a summary of the transient data available for extraction. Using the summary information, a user selects which data is to be extracted and archived. By selectively extracting portions of a large transient data set, the invention conserves memory space, sustains or increases speed of associated computers and networks, and eases the manipulation of extracted data.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2006Publication date: November 1, 2007Inventors: Joseph Vrba, Kai Bouse

Publication number: 20070255851Abstract: A method for adaptive test data reduction is performed by cooperative software applications running on a client computer and a server computer. On the client, a plotting application requests a range of test data, such as by specifying a starting time and either an ending time or a total number of data samples desired. The client application also specifies the number of points desired for display of the requested data, where the number of points is based on the screen size and resolution of the display device. Based on the client request, the server scans the requested data set and condenses it to produce a reduced resolution data set that is compatible with the display properties of the display device. The method prevents computers from having to send (or receive) more data than is actually needed to produce a desired data display.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2006Publication date: November 1, 2007Inventors: Joseph Vrba, Mark Slemp, Kai Bouse

Patent number: 5381517Abstract: A data processing system includes a memory with instructions and data stored therein. A fuzzy spreadsheet is stored in memory and has a plurality of cells, preferably arranged in columns and rows. The processor, stored instructions and stored data comprise a controller that receives input data and stores representations in cells. These representations include representations of fuzzy values. Operations, such as arithmetic operations, are performed on the data stored in the cells, including the fuzzy values, to produce derived representations that are stored in the cells and may be fuzzy values or crisp numbers or text. To facilitate a user's appreciation of a particular fuzzy number, the spreadsheet selectively simultaneously displays two representations of a fuzzy value, namely, a centroid and a graph.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1992Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: FuziWare, Inc.Inventors: Karl E. Thorndike, Joseph A. Vrba
