  • Patent number: 6560087
Abstract: An electronic signal filter is provided that includes a metal housing which has been adapted to be electrically grounded, and a circuit board positioned within the housing. The circuit board includes a first area and a second area, and has an electrically conductive trace formed on a portion of a top surface of the circuit board that provides electrical communication between the first and second areas of the circuit board. The filter further includes a metal shield connected to the housing, located between the first and second areas of the circuit board. The metal shield extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the circuit board and has a slot formed therein for receiving the portion of the circuit board on which the electrically conductive trace is formed. The slot is dimensioned to provide a space between the metal shield and the conductive trace.

  • Publication number: 20020196102
Abstract: An electrical signal filter including elongate upper and lower filter housing members abutted along a longitudinal seam between the housing members. The housing members hold at least one circuit board. A ground post is formed integrally with the lower filter housing member and is secured to the circuit board without solder. First and second mechanical engagement members are used to rotationally secure end caps to the housing members without solder. As a result, assembly of the filter components can be accomplished without the need for expensive soldering operations, thus reducing the overall manufacturing cost of the filter.

  • Patent number: 6429754
Abstract: An electrical signal filter including elongate upper and lower filter housing members abutted along a longitudinal seam between the housing members. The housing members hold at least one circuit board having first and second filter sections electrically connected to one another. An isolation shield is formed integrally with at least the lower filter housing member and extends inwardly and upwardly from the inner surface of the lower filter housing member in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal extension of the housing member. The circuit board has at least one slot for receiving at least a portion of the isolation shield, and is positioned within the filter housing members such that the isolation shield provides magnetic isolation between the first and second filter sections.

  • Publication number: 20020101302
Abstract: A reduced length filter including a housing having a female connector end and an opposed male connector end, and a circuit board positioned within the housing. The circuit board has first and second filter sections positioned on upper and lower surfaces thereof, and a ground plane positioned therebetween. The first filter section is in electrical communication with the second filter section. A first isolation shield is provided in electrical communication with the ground plane, and extends from the upper surface of the circuit board in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto and proximate one of first and second ends of the circuit board, and a second isolation shield is provided in electrical communication with the ground plane, and extends from the lower surface of the circuit board in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto and proximate the other one of the first and second ends of the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6273766
Abstract: An electronic device of the type including a threaded female connector adapted to mate with a cable connector including a housing, a female connector extending from the housing, and a circuit board positioned within said housing and having a first presoldered conductor wire extending therefrom toward the female connector. The electronic device further includes a collet assembly positioned within a bore of the threaded female connector, wherein the collet assembly comprises a generally cylindrical insulating body having a first end and an opposed second end, an electrically conductive collet contact passing through the insulating body and having a first end proximate the first end of the insulating body and a second end proximate the second end of the insulating body.

  • Patent number: 5770983
Abstract: The invention provides a tuned filter of reduced overall length in which two coils (air core inductors) are placed side by side, in mounting locations that are transverse with respect to the longitudinal direction of the filter, instead of in-line or diagonal to each other. The transverse mounting of the coils, depending on the number of poles in the filter, results in a reduction in the overall length of the filter to at least 25% to greater than 50% than can be realized in comparison to conventional in-line filter designs. In addition, the transverse mounting configuration results in an improvement in the electrical performance for both the in band and high frequency responses of the tuned notch filter.

  • Patent number: 5662494
Abstract: A filter structure including a collet assembly of inexpensive design that provides a reliable seal and can be easily implemented during the manufacturing process is disclosed. The collet assembly includes a front cap, a rear insert body, a collet contact extension passing through the rear insert body, and a seal located between the front cap and the rear insert body. The collet assembly is inserted into a connector of a filter housing. The seal provides a seal between the interface of the filter housing and the collet assembly. The collet assembly also preferably includes a well in the rear insert body that is filled with a sealant material that seals the interface between the rear insert body and the collet contact extension.

  • Patent number: 5202656
Abstract: A technique is disclosed to independently tune different sections of a filter by momentarily frequency shifting a first tuned section, preferably by shorting certain nodes in the first tuned section, such that response of a second section can be determined and independently tuned. The first section is returned to normal operation after the second section is tuned.
