  • Patent number: 7178571
Abstract: A method for incorporating graphics into absorbent articles. The method involving: providing a moving substrate to a print cylinder; sensing a line speed reference signal from a line speed target machinery component; rotating the print cylinder at a predetermined speed, based on the line speed reference signal, to thereby print a series of graphics on the moving substrate at a predetermined distance frequency; sensing a phase difference signal from a phase target machinery component; and setting an actual print cylinder phase angle, based on the phase difference signal, to approximate a predetermined phase angle to thereby position the series of graphics on the moving substrate at a series of desired graphics locations. A system for executing the method and garments produced from the method and system are also provided.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7118558
Abstract: An elastic assembly for absorbent garments having a first carrier layer, a second carrier layer, and an elastic layer attached between the first and second carrier layers to impart elasticity to an elasticized portion of the elastic assembly. The elastic layer is made of elastic strands having a decitex of about 600 or less. The elastic strands are arranged generally in parallel with one another and with a spacing of about 1 to about 10 elastic strands per centimeter. The elasticized portion of the elastic assembly has a thickness of about 2.6 mm or less at a pressure of 0.05 p.s.i. and about 8 or more corrugations per centimeter when in an elastically relaxed state. The first and second carrier layers are attached to one another in the elasticized portion substantially only by a coating of adhesive on the elastic strands. Absorbent garments incorporating the elastic assembly and a method of making the elastic assembly are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20030135183
Abstract: An absorbent article having a chassis having a chassis layer with a chassis surface area, an elastic portion, a topsheet attached to the chassis, at least a portion of the topsheet being liquid permeable, and an absorbent material disposed between the topsheet and the chassis. The elastic portion has a first carrier layer with a first surface area, and an elastic layer attached to the first carrier layer and having an elastic layer surface area. The elastic layer is an elastic scrim.

  • Publication number: 20030089447
Abstract: A softer absorbent garment is prepared by incorporating elastic strands that are coated around their periphery. The elastic strands are coated with adhesive by immersing them in an adhesive-filled applicator comb prior to applying the elastic strands to the garment. The absorbent garment thus requires less adhesive, and the manufacturing method provides a cleaner work environment.

  • Patent number: 6558499
Abstract: An absorbent article including one or more graphics thereon and a method for making the same are provided according to the present invention, wherein the reference markers used to cut the graphics are not included on the final absorbent article. Further, a variety pack of absorbent articles and method for making the same are provided, wherein each absorbent article in the pack includes a graphic thereon which differs from the graphics on the other absorbent articles in the pack.

  • Publication number: 20030078557
Abstract: An absorbent article having a double vertical cuff assembly comprises a first set of vertical cuffs attached to the surface of a liquid permeable topsheet and generally positioned on top of the absorbent core. The topsheet is preferably wrapped around an absorbent core forming a core assembly. The vertical cuffs attached to the topsheet extend upward from the respective side edges of the core assembly to define a first region there between for the containment of body exudates. The core assembly is positioned on the center of a liquid impermeable backsheet between a second set of vertical cuffs. The space between the second set of vertical cuffs and the core assembly define a second containment region for body exudates.
