  • Patent number: 11473618
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a thrust washer is provided in which a phenolic resin layer is bonded directly to a bearing surface of the base material using two presses at an elevated temperature and pressure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 22, 2020
Date of Patent: October 18, 2022
Assignee: Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG
Inventors: Daniel Linton, John Volcansek, Joseph Bonvissuto, Jung-Feng Hu, Rashid Farahati

  • Patent number: 10584740
Abstract: A layer is provided for a thrust bushing, for example a torque converter thrust bushing. A phenolic resin is bonded directly to a bearing surface of a rotating component to form the layer without any substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 12, 2018
Date of Patent: March 10, 2020
Assignee: Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG
Inventors: Daniel Linton, John Volcansek, Joseph Bonvissuto, Jung-Feng Hu, Rashid Farahati
  • Patent number: 10487877
Abstract: A thrust bearing cage including an improved lubrication feature is disclosed. The thrust bearing cage includes a first rim and a second rim with a plurality of crossbars extending therebetween to define rolling element pockets. Each crossbar of the plurality of crossbars includes: a first radial flange extending from the first rim; a second radial flange extending from the second rim; and a medial radial flange connecting the first radial flange and the second radial flange. The medial radial flange is axially offset from the first radial flange and the second radial flange. At least one of the first radial flange, the medial radial flange, or the second radial flange includes a protrusion defining at least one ramped surface. The ramped surface creates a hydrodynamic effect, which guides the thrust bearing cage away from an adjacent surface, and ensures that a lubricated state is maintained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 2018
Date of Patent: November 26, 2019
Assignee: SCHAEFFLER TECHNOLOGIES AG & CO. KG
