  • Patent number: 12281824
Abstract: An example flash tank includes a first inlet configured to receive a superheated vapor refrigerant, a second inlet configured to receive a two-phase refrigerant, a vapor outlet, a liquid collection volume, and a phase separation matrix including a first fluid path fluidically coupled between the first inlet and the liquid collection volume, a second fluid path fluidically coupled between the second inlet and the liquid collection volume, and a third fluid path fluidically coupled between the vapor outlet and the liquid collection volume. The phase separation matrix is configured to radially distribute thermal mixing of a refrigerant flowing within the first, second, and third fluid paths.

  • Patent number: 11686535
Abstract: A heat exchanger includes a shell housing a plurality of tubes and defining an exhaust fluid flow path within a first volume enclosed by the shell. The outer surfaces of the plurality of tubes are in fluid communication with the exhaust fluid flow path. The heat exchanger includes a cap attached to a first end of the shell and defining a second volume. A header is configured to separate the first volume from the second volume, flex with thermal expansion, and define tube inlet and outlet positions. The tube inlets and outlets are in fluid communication with a source fluid flow path, and each tube is substantially U-shaped and defines a flow path of the source fluid within the exhaust fluid flow path. The heat exchanger includes at least one longitudinal flow baffle within the shell configured to reduce an amount of exhaust fluid that may bypass the tubes.

  • Patent number: 8079407
Abstract: An integrated heat exchanger comprises a primary heat transfer zone and a secondary heat transfer zone integral to the primary heat transfer zone. The primary heat transfer zone comprises an ECS heat exchanger and the secondary heat transfer zone comprises a heat exchanger for a secondary system, such as an OBIGGS heat exchanger. The integrated heat exchanger reduces the negative impact that the OBIGGS heat exchanger has on the ECS heat exchanger by providing one ram face, thereby minimizing the flow disturbances associated with the OBIGGS heat exchanger. By integrating the OBIGGS and the ECS heat exchanger, the integrated heat exchanger reduces the negative impact of the pressure drop and heat load caused by the OBIGGS heat exchanger.
