    Abstract: A composition comprising a colloid that is stable under physiological pH and ionic strength is disclosed. The colloid comprises particles having a core and a shell: a) wherein said shell comprises a silylamine coupling agent; b) wherein the particles have a volume-weighted mean particle size diameter of less than 200 nm, and c) wherein greater than 35% of said silylamine coupling agent present in the colloid is bound to the core surfaces. These core-shell nanoparticulate materials are capable of carrying biological, pharmaceutical or diagnostic components. The components, which might include drugs, therapeutics, diagnostics, and targeting moieties can then be delivered directly to diseased tissue or bones and be released in close proximity to the disease and reduce the risk of side effects to the patient.
