  • Publication number: 20080059236
Abstract: Emergency medical information stored on a portable data storage device is automatically displayed on a computer when the device is mated to the computer. The portable data storage device emulates a CD-ROM drive to the computer, and includes memory partitioned into an emulated CD-ROM and a hidden data storage area that is not accessible by the operating system of the computer. Program instructions stored in an autorun.exe file on the emulated CD-ROM caused the computer to display emergency medical information associated with individual and the individual's photograph. The hidden data storage area is only accessible via a private Application Programming Interface (API). The program displaying emergency medical information may access the hidden data storage area following access control, such as entering a password or a biometric scan.
