  • Patent number: 4698258
Abstract: A base web is prepared which has two parallel layers of nonwoven fiber glass webs, each impregnated with a solidified resinous composition and separated from each other by a core layer of an expandable solidified resinous composition which is bonded to the resinous composition used to impregnate the fiber glass webs by a thin integral layer of nonexpandable resinous composition. Additional layers of resinous material, expandable and nonexpandable, and decorative effects may be supported by the base web. The composite web is subjected to heat processing to expand the core layer and other expandable layers that may be present and to fuse the resinous composition used in the construction of the product. The processes are particularly adaptable for the production of shapes such as floor tiles and decorations that employ chemical embossing.
