  • Patent number: 5900157
Abstract: Methods for controlling the fouling potential of macroinvertebrates are provided. An effective controlling amount of a polymer comprising a tannin and a cationic monomer is added to an aqueous system suffering from the fouling potential of macroinvertebrates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 18, 1997
Date of Patent: May 4, 1999
    Assignee: BetzDearborn Inc.
Inventors: Joseph C. Petrille, Michael W. Werner
  • Patent number: 5632899
Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods of detoxifying water containing alkylthioalkylamine compounds. The methods comprise adding to an aqueous system containing alkylthioalkylamines, a sufficient quantity of a swelling type natural or synthetic clay to neutralize the toxicity associated with alkylthioalkylamines to aquatic organisms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1995
Date of Patent: May 27, 1997
    Assignee: BetzDearborn Inc.
Inventors: Joseph C. Petrille, III, Michael W. Werner, Wilson K. Whitekettle
  • Patent number: 5518636
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of detoxifying water containing quaternary ammonium compounds to the extent that aquatic life such as fish and macroinvertebrates are protected. The method comprises adding to an aqueous system including a quaternary ammonium compound a sufficient quantity of a de-oiled lecithin. De-oiled lecithin is a mixture of phosphatides with about 2% or less residual oil.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1995
Date of Patent: May 21, 1996
    Assignee: Betz Laboratories, Inc.
Inventors: Joseph C. Petrille, III, Michael W. Werner
  • Patent number: 5486296
Abstract: Detoxification of quaternary ammonium compounds using detoxifying amounts of lignosulfonate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 1995
Date of Patent: January 23, 1996
    Assignee: Betz Laboratories, Inc.
Inventors: Joseph C. Petrille, III, Stephen R. Vasconcellos, Michael W. Werner
  • Patent number: 5468739
Abstract: Methods for controlling the fouling potential of Asiatic clams in aqueous systems are provided. The methods comprise adding to the aqueous system an effective controlling amount of a tetraalkyl phosphonium salt compound. The preferred compound is tri-butyltetradecyl phosphonium chloride.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 1994
Date of Patent: November 21, 1995
    Assignee: Betz Laboratories, Inc.
