  • Patent number: 10408406
Abstract: A partially coated lamp capsule (212) for a projection headlamp (12) has filament (224) in capsule envelope (220) having light-transmissive coating (60) extending from capsule upper region (225) towards filament distal end (227) to an axial location in a region defined between about 0.098 inch (2.5 mm) above filament distal end (227) and about 0.098 inch below filament distal end (227), the capsule envelope (220) being uncoated on an undistorted portion of capsule envelope (220) below filament proximal end (229). Lamp capsule (212) is useful in projection headlamp (12) having a reflector (28) whose central heel (37) forms the hot spot and casts light through projector lens (30) to generate low and/or high beam patterns. Present lamp capsules (212) give increased photometric intensity over conventional lamps in low beam at critical driver's lane (0.6D, 1.3R) and (0.86D, V) test points, and in high beam at the critical (H,V) test point.

  • Patent number: 7722210
Abstract: An advanced forward lighting system may be made with a lamp having a first filament and a second filament extending perpendicular to the first filament. The second filament is partially hidden rearward and above the first filament. A reflector forms a main beam from the first filament light and a right or left cast supplemental beam from the second filament light. The second filament's position minimizes glare, and enables a simple advanced forward lighting system from a single standard lamp fitting both right and left side reflectors.

  • Patent number: 6346767
Abstract: A lamp has an electrically insulating, light-transmitting, preferably lead-free envelope with a base end and contains a light source. At least two electrical lead-ins are connected to the light source and exit the envelope. A base is affixed to the base end, the base having first and second electrically conductive portions separated by an electrically insulating portion. One of the electrical lead-ins is electrically connected to the first electrically conductive portion and another of the electrically conductive lead-ins is electrically connected to the second electrically conductive portion. The base is non-rotationally mounted to the base end of the lamp by a locking clip affixed to the first electrically conductive portion by mechanical means and affixed to the base by chemical means.

  • Patent number: 6249077
Abstract: A mounting member for supporting a shroud, and an arc tube located within such shroud, in an arc discharge lamp is provided. The mounting member includes at least two support clips welded to at least one support rod on the same side of the support rod. A bubble-in-the-press arc lamp is provided having at least one press seal that includes opposite walls. A bubble portion is formed in one wall, and the other wall includes a protrusion. The bubble portion extends towards one wall and the protrusion extends towards the other wall to hold a support clip of a supporting member therebetween. An electric lamp assembly is provided that includes the mounting means and/or the bubble-in-the-press arc tube of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6188164
Abstract: A mount assembly for supporting the arc tube of a lamp within an outer envelope has first and second axially aligned banding straps. Each of the straps has a closed crimp section and an open crimp section. The straps are positioned so that an open crimp section of one strap overlies a closed crimp section of the other strap, thereby equalizing tensions when the crimps are closed. The mount assembly includes also a mount frame comprised of two elongated rods which are affixed to the banding straps. The straps are mounted upon the glass stem of the lamp.

  • Patent number: 6008566
Abstract: A lamp mount assembly (9) includes: a centrally located glass stem (10) having a convex surface; upper and lower banding straps (11, 13) circumferentially encompassing, and crimped to, the centrally located glass stem (10), the banding straps (11, 13) each further comprising oppositely disposed crimp portions, a first of the crimp portions being an interlocking crimp portion (12a, 12b) and a second of the crimp portions being a solid crimp portion (13a), the interlocking crimp portion of the upper banding strap (11) overlying the solid crimp portion (13a) of the lower banding strap (13); and a pair of mount frames (14) disposed about the centrally located glass stem (10), the banding straps (11, 13) holding the mounting frames (14) in place about the glass stem (10), the mounting frames (14) having a coined, concave surface substantially matching the convex surface of the glass stem (10).
