  • Patent number: 4331330
Abstract: A baseball bat is shown having at the ball hitting portion a transverse cross section geometry of maximum frontal dimension and less mass than a full circular baseball bat, so as to improve the batting average, the speed, the distance and the directional accuracy of the batter. Moreover, the intermediate portion of the bat has optimum strength for its weight.

  • Patent number: 4284276
Abstract: A golf ball is shown with an outer surface that is substantially covered with a plurality of spaced dimples that give the ball a suitable long and predictable flight pattern for wood or iron shots due to imparting an increased lift to the ball when the ball is given a backspin. Several modifications of the invention are shown. One or more elongated grooves are formed on the outer surface of the ball for interlocking with grooves that are formed in the face of a golf club so as to increase the grip as well as achieve more "hang time" for a given amount of backspin of the ball. Another modification has a cluster of grooves that is spaced about 90.degree. from the manufacturer's brand name indicia that is marked on the ball. The preferred modification has a continuous band of grooves that encircles the ball and increases the amount of backspin the ball will have leaving the tee which will improve the trajectory or "hang time" of the driven ball.

  • Patent number: 4258921
Abstract: A golf ball is shown with an outer surface that is substantially covered with a plurality of spaced dimples that give the ball a suitable long and predictable flight pattern for wood or iron shots due to imparting an increased lift to the ball when the ball has a backspin. An undimpled patch is formed on the outer surface for use as a smooth putter-contacting surface. The size of the undimpled patch is chosen to achieve the desired putting accuracy objective without detracting from the increased "hang" time of the flight of the ball. The center of the undimpled patch is substantially spaced between about 90.degree. and 100.degree. from the center of the imprint of the brand name of the ball manufacturer, so the ball may be positioned for putting with the brand name indicia located at the top of the ball, and the location of the undimpled patch being easily discernible from above by the golfer as he stands over the ball and prepares to putt.

  • Patent number: 4147297
Abstract: A temperature sensing system for controlling the temperature of fill water in an automatic washer having an inlet hot water valve and an inlet cold water valve. The inlet hot water valve is continuously open during fill and the inlet cold water valve is normally closed during fill. A first predetermined temperature level of the incoming hot water is sensed and also a second predetermined level of incoming hot water is sensed, the second temperature level being lower than the first temperature level. A switch is provided to bypass the sensing of the second predetermined temperature level of the incoming hot water. This switch allows the user of the clothes washer to preselect either of two water temperature levels desired. When both the inlet hot water temperature is above the first temperature level and the sensing of the second temperature level is bypassed, the cold water valve is opened by a control.

  • Patent number: 4003225
Abstract: A lint filter agitator assembly for an automatic washing machine having a driving member, an agitator secured to the driving member. The agitator has an upper center post, a lower flared base portion, and at least two agitating vanes. There is provided a filter member mounted on the exterior of the agitator in the area of the flared base portion and recessed between the two agitator vanes. The filter member and agitator form a filtering chamber. Washing liquid is circulated through holes provided in the top of the filter member and exits through openings in the bottom of the filter member while any lint carried by the washing liquid is retained within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 3978693
Abstract: A belt drive mechanism for an automatic clothes washing machine having a timer to control the operational cycles of the machine, a basket supported for rotation, and a vaned structure for agitating the clothes in the basket. A motor provides a plurality of operational modes and has a start winding and a run winding. There is an input shaft connected with the motor by a belt and coupled to the vaned structure for agitation thereof for a first mode of operation of the motor and coupled to the basket for effecting rotation thereof during a second mode of operation of the motor. An idler pulley engages the belt with means arranged for biasing the pulley against the belt to place tension on the belt and means including the motor windings to overcome the pulley biasing means during energization of the motor start winding to thereby release tension on the belt.
