  • Patent number: 4455802
Abstract: Fire stops for structures formed of combustible materials such as frame dwellings and the like are formed of wire screen with support frames and positioned in spaced relation below wooden floor joists and wooden plates and other transverse wooden members positioned between wooden studding and the like in such structures. The wire screen introduces an element of high heat conductivity and effectively prevents the upward propagation of flame therethrough. Perforated metal sheets in contact with said wire screen support the same.

  • Patent number: 4393633
Abstract: A wall construction suitable for exterior load bearing walls includes spaced studding positioned vertically between upper and lower plates with the inner surfaces of the studs scalloped so as to present limited areas of contact with lath and plaster or drywall. Insulating board is positioned on the outer continuous surface of the studs with a foam board affixed directly thereto. Siding or the like is positioned on the exterior of the foam board to form the exterior surface of the wall. Insulating bats are positioned within the wall cavity adjacent the insulating board and between the spaced studding. Openings are provided in the interior wall surface to circulate warm air in the interior of the wall cavity. Additional openings are provided in the lower plate of the wall to allow air to circulate from a basement area into the wall cavity.

  • Patent number: 4031681
Abstract: A wall construction suitable for an exterior load bearing wall includes spaced studding positioned vertically between upper and lower plates with the outer surfaces of the studs scalloped so as to present limited areas of contact with an insulating board affixed thereto and preferably incorporating a moisture seal membrane. Siding or the like is positioned on the exterior of the insulating board to form the exterior surface of the wall and lath and plaster or dry wall is affixed to the interior surface of the studding in continuous contact therewith to complete the wall construction, the arrangement being such that the studding act as heat conveying fins on the lath and plaster or dry wall so as to warm the area within the wall construction. The spaced transversely positioned scallops in the exterior surface of the studding substantially isolating the studding from the insulating board and exterior siding.
