Patent number: 6668427Abstract: A metal cable tie is disclosed. The cable tie includes an elongate metallic strap, a metallic locking head, and metallic roller means. The strap has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The head is secured to the first end of the strap for receiving the second end of the strap. The head comprises a strap entry face, a strap exit face, and a strap-receiving aperture extending therebetween. The head further comprises a floor and a roof which diverge in the direction of the exit face. The metallic roller means lockingly engages the strap, and the head comprises retention means disposed adjacent the exit face for captively holding the roller means within the head. The roller means is movable between a threading position wherein the roller means is disposed adjacent the exit face and the retention means, and a locking position wherein the roller means is closer the entry face.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2002Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Panduit Corp.Inventors: John J. Bulanda, Joseph A. Chopp, Jr., Bernard J. O'Grady, David P. Newman

Patent number: 6179191Abstract: An apparatus for advancing one or more lengths of wire in consistent successive increments includes a pair of cooperating gripper members. A first gripper and a second gripper are provided for advancing the length of wire, and are slideably located within a slot. A reciprocating press assembly having inclined surfaces is used to motivate the grippers. The inclined surfaces are inserted between the grippers and force the grippers to move away from each other during the downstroke of the plunger. Springs force the grippers back toward each other, and aid in repositioning the grippers and moving the wire. While one gripper grips and advances the wire, the second gripper is repositioning and not gripping the wire. The press assembly activates and advances one gripper during a downstroke, and activates and advances the other gripper during an upstroke. Also, during the downstroke, one inactive gripper is repositioned, while on the upstroke, the other inactive gripper is repositioned.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventor: Joseph Chopp

Patent number: 4399592Abstract: A tie for forming a plurality of objects into a bundle and for holding a pair of objects together comprising an elongate metallic strap, a metallic locking head disposed adjacent one end of the strap for receiving the other end of the strap and metallic roller means captively held within the head for lockingly engaging the strap. The head includes a strap entry face, a strap exit face and a strap-receiving aperture extending between the faces. The head further comprises a floor and a roof diverging in the direction of the exit face. The roller means is movable between a threading position in which it is disposed adjacent the exit face and a locking position wherein the roller means is closer the entry face. The tie further includes strap deflection means functioning along with the roller means to effect a bend in the threaded portion of the strap whereby the threaded strap is maintained in engagement with the roller means without regard to the orientation of the head.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1980Date of Patent: August 23, 1983Assignee: Panduit Corp.Inventors: Joseph A.
