Publication number: 20130161872Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with improving the appearance of graphics printed on a flexible polymer film which is subsequently heated to a forming temperature and then drawn into a mold to form a cavity adapted for the packaging of an item, typically a food item. The improvement is effected by reducing the heat transfer to the portions of the film carrying the graphics thereby reducing the formability of these portions so that they stretch less than the rest of the film which is drawn into the mold. Typically the film is heated by contact with a heated platen. In such cases the reduced heat transfer can be effected by having zones of a cooler temperature which are adapted to be in registry with the portions of the film carrying the graphics or by covering the portions of the heated platen in registry with these graphics with an insulating material such as Teflon tape. The mouth of the cavity can then be closed by sealing to another flexible polymeric film.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2011Publication date: June 27, 2013Applicant: CURWOOD, INCInventors: Brian Joseph Conrad, Gordon Charles Sarx, Daniel Frank Janichek

Patent number: 8397914Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with heat shrunk sealed packages of flexible transparent thermoplastic film that easily opened by peeling. It involves lowering the peel strength of the heat seal between the two films used to form the package by providing one of them with a frangible layer by contaminating a layer with an incompatible polymer and providing a set of graspable tabs, one on each of the films, with which to initiate peeling of the heat seal. The tabs are heat set so that they do not shrink with the rest of the package. In a preferred embodiment, the package is provided with a second heat seal just inside the perimeter of the first and a stress concentrator, which may be a chevron, at the juncture of heat set tabs which lie with one atop the other with the first heat seal.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2012Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Curwood, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Frank Janichek, Jr., Brian Joseph Conrad, Christopher Wayne Nimis, Matthew Christopher Peterka

Patent number: 7921468Abstract: Protective eyeglasses provide hearing protection from elevated noise levels. The protective eyeglasses have safety lenses for protection of each of the eyes. Support members extend from the lenses of the eyeglasses to the ears, and have earplugs or protectors thereon which are inserted into the ears. The side support members are spring biased towards each other so that the side members provide pressure to hold the plugs in the ears of the wearer. Ear plugs are mounted so as to swivel relative to the side support members. The side support members are telescoping and are adjustable in length.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2009Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Inventor: Daniel Joseph Conrad Sutton

Publication number: 20070151009Abstract: A potting training device for preventing a potty-training child's urine stream from passing through the opening formed between the toilet seat and the toilet bowl. The device is made of a flexible, water-resistant, preferably non-porous sheet material, having a folding seam separating a urine-deflecting surface and a plurality of attachment tabs. An adhesive material is applied to the surface of each attachment tab and attaches the attachment tabs to the underside of the toilet seat. The sheet material, in its unattached flat configuration, is manipulated into a curved configuration that matches the curvature of the toilet seat, and is attached thereto. The potty training device is also not visible to the observer unless the toilet seat is lifted up, in a vertical position or viewed from a position to the rear of the attachment point when the toilet seat is down.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2007Publication date: July 5, 2007Inventors: Joseph Conrad, Kurt Briscoe
