Patent number: 8922579Abstract: A VCI (visual context indicator) color is assigned deterministically and proactively at runtime to user data contexts, and is not stored in the database, spreadsheet, or other context. VCI colors can be high contrast friendly colors. The same color is assigned to a given context each time the application runs unless the context's identifying property has changed. Color assignments are not made by users or by the application's designer, but are done instead by hashing from a context's identifying property into a VCI color palette containing, e.g., eight to sixteen colors. Unlike text-selection coloring, VCI coloring is based on the user data context's identifying property. The color assignment visually indicates context by displaying the context's name in the VCI color, or by displaying a graphical element in the VCI color near the context name. VCI color assignment also shows the occurrence and result of changes in user data context.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2012Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Zheng Mi, Nigel Christopher Wolters, Hua Wang, Jennifer Lee Beckmann, Joseph Dallas Milan, Steven Merlin Twitchell

Publication number: 20140182010Abstract: Methods for introgressing an allele of interest of a locus associated with a yield trait into Zea mays germplasm are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include providing a Zea mays plant that contains an allele of interest of a locus associated with a yield trait, wherein the locus associated with the yield trait is identifiable by PCR amplification of a Zea mays nucleic acid with a pair of oligonucleotides primers as disclosed herein, and introgressing the allele of interest into Zea mays germplasm that lacks the allele. Also provided are methods for identifying Zea mays plants that contain at least one allele associated with improved yield, improved maize plants, elite Zea mays plants, biomass produced from improved Zea mays plants, isolated and purified genetic markers, and compositions that include an amplification primer pair capable of amplifying a Zea mays nucleic acid to generate a Zea mays marker amplicon.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2014Publication date: June 26, 2014Applicant: SYNGENTA PARTICIPATIONS AGInventors: Daolong WANG, Librardo Andres GUTIERREZ-ROJAS, Xi CHEN, Joseph Dallas CLARKE, V, Michael G. Publication number: 20130175438Abstract: Detector assembly for downhole spectroscopy includes a near-infra-red quaternary photodiode that can operate at high temperatures without cooling it to the standard operation temperature range of the photodiode. High temperature operation of the photodiode right shifts the detector assembly's responsivity curve to include wavelengths of up to 2400-nm. The photodiode has manageable dark current at temperatures even at 200° C., and it can be packaged using high temperature construction. The photodiode is operated in photovoltaic mode at high temperatures but can be operated at photoconductive mode at lower temperatures. At least partial cooling can be provided above a predetermined temperature.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2011Publication date: July 11, 2013Applicant: PRECISION ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Jess V. Ford, Bryan W. Kasperski, Sean M. Christian, Tom Haslett, Dave Demmer, Joseph Dallas, Dave Winick

Patent number: 8170805Abstract: Provided herein are methods for evaluating associations between candidate genes and a trait of interest in a population. The methods include a combination of genome-wide association analysis and one or more of nested association mapping (NAM), expression QTL analysis (eQTL), and allele epistastic analysis (AEA). Markers are selected or prioritized if they are shown to be positively-correlated with a trait of interest using GWA and a combination of one or both of NAM and eQTL. Also provided are models for evaluating the association between a candidate marker and a trait in a nested population of organisms. These methods include single marker regression and multiple marker regression models. Markers identified using the methods of the invention can be used in marker assisted breeding and selection, as genetic markers for constructing linkage maps, for gene discovery, for identifying genes contributing to a trait of interest, and for generating transgenic organisms having a desired trait.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2009Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Syngenta Participations AGInventors: Venkata Krishna Kishore, Zhigang Guo, Min Li, Daolong Wang, Libardo Andres Gutierrez Rojas, Joseph Dallas Clarke, V, Joseph Byrum
