  • Patent number: 5942423
Abstract: A method for converting compactin to pravastatin is described. Compactin is provided and contacted with an agent derived from Actinomadura under conditions in which the agent converts compactin to pravastatin. Also described are an Actinomadura strain, an Actinomadura cell free extract, an Actinomadura hydroxylase, and a method for lowering cholesterol levels in mammals.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 24, 1999
    Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Inventors: Arnold L. Demain, Yulin Peng, Jacob Yashphe, Joseph Davis
  • Patent number: 4527911
Abstract: An oil transfer tube for a gas turbine engine lubrication system is fabricated with radial and axial passageways so that it permits oil to feed the bearing's fluid damper and distributes oil to the bearing itself. The transfer tube is easily removable without disrupting the adjacent assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4453783
Abstract: A bearing support structure in which the outer bearing race is in a support ring surrounded by an outer damper ring to form an oil damper space therebetween. At one end of the support ring is a projecting flange to which one end of each of a ring of rods is secured. This ring of rods surrounds the outer damper ring and is secured at the other end of the rods to the remote end of the outer damper ring. The inner end of the damper ring is supported from a mounting flange by a frusto-conical member having holes therethrough for the rods.

  • Patent number: 4406459
Abstract: A carbon seal for the bearing compartment for a gas turbine engine has radially extending passages in the rotating seal plate so arranged as to pump oil by centrifugal force from the space between the seal plate and the shaft into the bearing compartment surrounding the seal. With this seal plate no detrimental oil accumulation is permitted in this space.

  • Patent number: 4033764
Abstract: Metal ions may be scavenged from solution by means of a complexing agent comprising an inorganic substrate, such as a clay mineral, with covalent organic molecules, such as onium compounds, chemically bonded to the substrate, the covalent organic molecules containing free coordinating groups. The complexing agents are particularly useful in scavenging environmentally harmful metal ions such as mercury from industrial effluents.
