  • Publication number: 20250166471
Abstract: A visual signaling system includes smart signage with a set of three or more lights visible from a single direction. Activation of the lights in a first pattern indicates a hazard and for individuals to move away from the sign. Activation of the lights in a second pattern indicates safety and for individuals to move toward the sign. Activation of the lights in a third pattern indicates a need for caution and for individuals to refrain from approaching the sign. The visual signaling system may include a plurality of smart signs which display different patterns on different signs depending on the location of each sign relative to the hazard, thereby guiding individuals away from the hazard.

  • Publication number: 20240354884
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing security to building occupants include a plurality of smart exit signs positioned at locations in or around a secure area to be monitored. Input devices contained in the smart exit signs are configured to be receptive to sensory activity within the secure area. The system further includes a master controller configured to analyze input signals indicative of the sensory activity detected within the secure area to determine whether a potential security issue exists. Output devices contained in the smart exit signs are configured to receive indication from the master controller when a potential security issue exists. In response to receiving indication from the master controller, the output devices are configured to assist occupants within the secure area to respond to the potential security issue by providing real-time information on optimum exit routes or shelter-in-place locations.

  • Publication number: 20220107031
Abstract: A pressure and temperature valve comprising a pressure relief valve (100) and a temperature probe (200). The pressure relief valve comprises a valve seat (14) and a valve member (20) arranged to rest in contact with the valve seat to close the valve and to be lifted off the valve seat to open the valve. The temperature probe (200) comprises a housing (52), a volume of expansion material (62) within the housing, a piston (64) slidable within the housing and arranged to be moved in a first direction by expansion of the expansion material, and in a second direction opposite to the first direction on contraction of the expansion material. A lift rod (90) is arranged to be moved by movement of the piston (64) in the first direction thereby to move the valve member (20) to open the valve.

  • Patent number: 9346575
Abstract: A container, such as a bottle or jar, that includes a closed compartment and an active insert device for pressurizing the closed compartment. The active insert device comprises an elastic liner and an active insert that are affixed to a closure or cap or the container. The active insert includes at least one reactant that is triggered to a reaction by an external energy source. The reaction produces a gas, which is delivered to the closed compartment via the liner. The gas causes the liner to expand and open a passage to deliver the gas to the closed compartment.

  • Patent number: 9051098
Abstract: A container comprising a compartment and a closure, which hermetically seals the compartment. The closure comprises an active insert device that comprises one or more reactants that when initiated enter into a diazotization reaction produces nitrogen gas which is delivered to the compartment to increase the pressure of the compartment. The active insert device includes a filter that filters the gas and a vent port through which the gas is delivered to the compartment. A seal opens and closes the vent port based on a pressure difference between the compartment and the vent port side of the seal.

  • Patent number: 8671655
Abstract: Devices and a method for releasing gas in a container after closing and sealing to pressurize and/or prevent or counteract buckling thereof, and or provide structural rigidity and strength thereto and or release components. The method introduces a reactive agent into the container after filling and before sealing. The reactive agent is controlled to react to provide a gas and optionally components, which a) provides a positive pressure to prevent or counteract buckling and provide structural rigidity to the container, and b) and or changes the state or characteristics of the headspace and or contents of the closed container. The devices include a closure, a cap and a container. The reactive agent is brought to chemical reaction by moistening, heating, catalyst and the like. The closure includes the reactive agent and is disposed in the container. The external trigger is a device that emits energy that provides heat to the reactive agent to stimulate the chemical reaction.

  • Publication number: 20060161142
Abstract: Lasers capable of lasing at at least two wavelengths are provided having a lasing medium which is capable of lasing at a first wavelength and at a second wavelength. An output coupler is positioned along a longitudinal axis at a first end of the lasing medium and a first mirror, movable beam block shutter and second mirror are positioned sequentially along the longitudinal axis of the lasing medium at a second end of the lasing medium. The first mirror is highly reflective at a first wavelength, and the second mirror is highly reflective at a second wavelength while being transparent at the first wavelength. The beam block shutter is movable between a first position along the longitudinal axis of the lasing medium and between the first and second mirrors and a second position away from the longitudinal axis of the lasing medium.

  • Publication number: 20060014189
Abstract: The present teachings relate to methods, compositions, and kits for detecting one or more target polynucleotide sequences in a sample. In some embodiments of the present teachings, probes are hybridized to complementary target polynucleotides and are ligated together to form a ligation product. Some embodiments of the present teachings comprise positive assay control probes that provide information regarding the occurrence of specific ligation in a complex ligation assay mixture. Some embodiments of the present teachings provide for negative assay control probes that provide information regarding the occurrence of non-specific ligation in a complex ligation assay mixture. Some embodiments of the present teachings provide for the generation of two distinct signals from a monomorphic target polynucleotide sequence.

  • Patent number: 6854453
Abstract: A vapor fuel injection system including an air pump having dedicated air cylinders assigned to individual engine cylinders and adapted to produce timed charges of pre-heated air adapted to push timed charges of fuel through a heat exchanger where the timed charges of fuel are converted into metered charges of fuel vapor. The charges of fuel vapor are subsequently pushed into and through fuel vapor delivery nozzles defined in the respective guide bodies of respective intake valve assemblies. After exiting the guide body of said valve assemblies, the timed charges of fuel vapor mix with intake manifold air and then are fed directly into the engine cylinders for combustion.

  • Publication number: 20030175750
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for identifying one or more of a plurality of sequences differing by one or more single base changes, insertions, deletions, or translocations in a plurality of target nucleotide sequences. The ligation phase utilizes a ligation detection reaction between one oligonucleotide probe, which has a target sequence-specific portion and an addressable array-specific portion, and a second oligonucleotide probe, having a target sequence-specific portion and a detectable label. After the ligation phase, the capture phase is carried out by hybridizing the ligated oligonucleotide probes to a solid support with an array of immobilized capture oligonucleotides at least some of which are complementary to the addressable array-specific portion. Following completion of the capture phase, a detection phase is carried out to detect the labels of ligated oligonucleotide probes hybridized to the solid support. The ligation phase can be preceded by an amplification process.
