  • Patent number: 4462439
Abstract: A chain saw mountable on a powered vehicle having a chain support with a loop-defining chain run including an exposed cutting run portion. The chain support has a lower surface which defines a lower tree-cutting surface along which the lower support surface travels during cutting. The non-cutting run portion of the chain loop is disposed coincident with or above this lower surface. The upper surface of the support covers the non-cutting run portion and has a general wedge-shaped tapering toward the cutting run portion.

  • Patent number: 4384599
Abstract: A substantially planar base plate has a notch therein of a size suitable for receiving tree trunks. The notch has a first and second side, each side being opposite the other. A substantially planar blade has a convex, arc-shaped cutting edge, and is pivotally attached for swinging across the top surface of the plate from the first side of the notch toward the second side so as to slice through a trunk received within the notch. A pair of underbeveled surfaces are located adjacent the notch's second side for undercutting a trunk with respect to the blade so that the trunk leans in the direction of blade swinging during slicing. An hydraulic ram connected to the blade swings it at a preselected slice rate chosen to cause, during slicing, a blade travel speed which has a predetermined relationship to the rate of trunk leaning.

  • Patent number: 4278391
Abstract: An assembly for protecting the tracks in a track-laying logging vehicle against impact damage and derailment. The assembly includes, for each track, a bumper located adjacent and extending across the rear of the track, a fender anchored to the bumper and forming a protective apron over the rear end of the track, and front and rear lateral guides for preventing outward derailment of the track. The track fenders are configured both to assist in log loading, and in supporting the ends of a bundle of loaded logs during transport.
