Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and device for improving the reliability, maintainability, performance and safety of exercise machines. Generally, the improvement includes installing wear resistant devices and frictionless bearings to promote consistent and predictable resistance accompanied by fluidic and sustained machine operation. The improvement further includes installing a shielding mechanism to guard the mechanical components of the exercise machine from environmental contamination and to further enable draining fluids away from vital mechanical parts. The shield also serves as a safe barrier between the users of the machine and its operating electrical and mechanical parts.
