  • Patent number: 4422383
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a floating incendiary device adapted to be dropped from an aircraft onto a combustible material on a body of water. The device includes an incendiary composition in the form of a disc which is ignited peripherally and burns inwardly. The incendiary composition is sandwiched between a pair of discs which direct the resulting flame radially outwardly over the surface of the combustible material during the burn time of the incendiary composition for a time sufficient to raise the temperature of the combustible material to its fire point to produce ignition and selfsustaining combustion of the combustible material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 14, 1981
Date of Patent: December 27, 1983
Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National Defence
Inventors: Joseph E. G. Couture, Philip A. Twardawa
  • Patent number: 4365557
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a floating incendiary device adapted to be dropped from an aircraft onto a combustible material on a body of water. The device includes means for directing the resulting heat by convection and radiation to concentrate on a particular area of the combustible material for a time sufficient to raise the temperature of the combustible material to its fire point to produce ignition and self-sustaining combustion of the combustible material. A novel incendiary composition for use with the device is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1980
Date of Patent: December 28, 1982
Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National Defence
Inventors: Joseph E. G. Couture, Philip A. Twardawa
  • Patent number: 4315043
Abstract: A method of coating an organic dye composition with an inert coating material, such as an epoxy resin, is disclosed which improves the mechanical properties of the organic dye particles and enables the production of pour-castable colored smoke-producing compositions of high solids loading.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1980
Date of Patent: February 9, 1982
Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National Defence
    Inventors: Joseph E. G. Couture, Joseph N. A. Roy
  • Patent number: 4225368
Abstract: This invention relates to organic dye compositions of improved mechanical properties and to a method of coating the dye with an inert coating material which enables the production of pour-castable colored smoke-producing compositions of high solids loading, particularly when a red dye e.g. Disperse Red 9, is employed.
