  • Publication number: 20190018012
Abstract: A system and method for providing improved therapeutic treatments and improved clinical trials for therapeutic treatments involves the predicting of a placebo response or effect by appreciation of the condition of and variances to the microbiome of individuals involved in drug efficacy studies. The provision of purportedly neutral placebos, such a “sugar pill”, has an effect on the microbes in a person's body, and therefore often has an effect on the person's wellbeing and perception of treatment. An appreciation that there is an actual effect due to the modification of the microbiome, caused by the administration of the placebo, forms a basis for various methods and systems of the present invention, with such appreciation being employed to design and conduct better drug efficacy studies without the prior problems experienced due to the placebo effect.

  • Publication number: 20180360394
Abstract: A method for preventing obesity related to infection by an adipogenic adenovirus includes obtaining a sample from a person, assaying the sample to determine whether the person has been previously infected with an adipogenic adenovirus, and if the person has not been previously infected, providing the person with at least one sensor positioned to detect when a person's hand approaches a predetermined distance from the person's face. By warning the person of undesired hand-to-face contacts, the person is able to reduce the incidence of obesity related infections. Other embodiments are directed to a kit for preventing obesity caused by infection with an adipogenic adenovirus, such kit including a container for assaying an agent indicating the presence of antibodies to Ad-36, and a sensor positioned on an item selected from the group consisting of one of a hat, a writing instrument, eye glasses, a belt, sunglasses, a bra, a shirt, and a tie.

  • Publication number: 20180303658
Abstract: A method and system of reducing the likelihood of an inflammatory disease developing by providing a mucosal adhesive strip to a subject, with the strip provided with at least one of a plurality of agents effective to hinder the growth of spirochetes bacteria in a subject's oral cavity. In certain embodiments, an effective amount of Prevotella intermedia is provided to decrease the incidence of periodontitis and to reduce the progression of Alzheimer's disease. In still other embodiments, the likelihood that a subject will suffer from Alzheimer's disease is reduced by administering via local gingival application to a subject that has been diagnosed with periodontitis an effective amount of an antibiotic effective to kill spirochetes bacteria residing on the subgingival tooth area of the subject.

  • Patent number: 10092057
Abstract: An improved design for a helmet to reduce injuries caused by helmet-to-helmet collisions. Certain embodiments include novel quick release features that permit the detachment of a facemask from a helmet in 30 seconds or less, resulting in the ability to attend to an injured player in a rapid fashion and without the need for any additional tools to accomplish such removal. Other aspects relate to impact energy absorbing constructions, including shock absorbing systems and PEEK facemask designs, that when combined with the quick release features described, provide a superior helmet for a player's protection.

  • Patent number: 10085938
Abstract: A method and system to prevent sore throat infections in humans includes the administration of an active ingredient to a site on the mucus membranes of the throat of a human that inhibits adherence and promotes desorption of S. pyogenes to soft tissue surfaces, such as the pharyngeal and oral mucosa of a human. A mucoadhesive strip having a surface topography that resists bioadhesion of undesired bacteria that are typically present in a human's mouth is preferably employed and that has one or more encapsulated agents selected from the group consisting of an antibiotic; lactic acid bacteria; S. pyogenes modified by a CRISPR-Cas system to reduce one or more virulence factors; and a breath mint solution.

  • Publication number: 20180264340
Abstract: A method and system for improving the accuracy of putting a golf ball that includes a golf glove for use with a putter grip that has a straight edge, with the golf glove having a visual line alignment feature/illustration that allows a golfer to place his or her hand in a repeatable, proper position on the grip of the putter. The golf glove employed is devoid of any putter attachment feature, such as hook-and-loop fastener material on the glove or the golf grip and is further devoid of any indicia affixed to the back-hand portion of a glove that could be viewed as an alignment indicia, as it only complicates and confuses a golfer when putting.

  • Patent number: 9901245
Abstract: A hand-held gripping device that allows one of a surgeon, a dentist, and an orthodontist to reach interior portions of a person's anatomy, includes a gripping portion having a pair of jaws or nets movable relative to each other between fully clamped and fully opened positions thereof, a handle portion spaced apart from the jaw portion by a bendable central portion that has a hollow, bendable corrugated member with at least one cord extending therethrough. The retrieval of a thrombus to promptly address ischemic issues is made possible due to the flexible corrugated member being able to access small vessels in a patient's brain, as well as magnetic properties of the thrombus and/or jaws, nets, bags, or flexible fingers, of the grasping end, thus facilitating removal of the thrombus.
