    Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes for producing 1,6-hexanediol. In one embodiment, the process comprises a step of contacting 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carbaldehyde, a solvent, and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a reaction temperature between about 0° C. and about 120° C. at a pressure and for a reaction time sufficient to form a product mixture comprising 1,6-hexanediol. In one embodiment, the catalyst comprises a metal M1, a metal M2 or an oxide of M2, and a support, wherein M1 is Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, or Pt, and M2 is Mo, W, or Re; or M1 is Cu and M2 is Ni, Mn, or W.

    Abstract: A hydrodeoxygenation process for producing a linear alkane from a feedstock comprising a saturated or unsaturated C10-18 oxygenate that comprises an ester group, carboxylic acid group, carbonyl group and/or alcohol group is disclosed. The process comprises contacting the feedstock with a catalyst composition comprising a metal catalyst and a heteropolyacid or heteropolyacid salt, at a temperature between about 240° C. to 280° C. and a hydrogen gas pressure of at least 300 psi. The metal catalyst comprises copper in certain embodiments. By contacting the feedstock with the catalyst composition under these temperature and pressure conditions, the C10-18 oxygenate is hydrodeoxygenated to a linear alkane that has the same carbon chain length as the C10-18 oxygenate.

    Abstract: Electro-static discharge protection for sensitive circuitry in devices, which have exposed metallic contacts for accessing such circuitry, is achieved by providing switching apparatus in these devices. The switching apparatus isolates the sensitive circuitry from static electricity which may be impressed upon the exposed metallic contacts. In operation, when a first device is placed in engagement with a second device for transferring data, charging a battery or the like, the switching apparatus relies on the weight exerted by the first device on the second device for establishing a conducting path between the contacts and the sensitive circuitry in each device. This conducting path is interrupted when the first device is removed from the second device thereby providing isolation for the sensitive circuitry from any static electricity which may be impressed upon the exposed metallic contacts.

The container apparatus comprises a peripheral flange located about the receptacle portion near said opened top. The lid includes a corresponding depending flange which is substantially surrounded by the peripheral flange when said lid is enplaced upon the receptacle portion.

    Abstract: A child resistant closure cap is detachably fastened over a peripheral flange associated with a container. The cap has a peripheral bottom flange upon which is located a plurality of fulcrum members which rest upon the top edge of the container flange. Located beneath a selected number of fulcrum members is a projecting undercut, which undercut as positioned underlies the container flange. One of the undercuts is not associated with a fulcrum member and above this undercut, a force is applied by a user to cause the cap to pivot about the fulcrums releasing the same from the container.
