  • Patent number: 5580392
Abstract: Compositions and methods for treating a contact lens are disclosed. In one embodiment, the composition comprises an ophthalmically acceptable liquid aqueous medium and a plurality of particles which possess a hardness gradient. The hardness gradient of the particles is due to the particles having a relatively inelastic, water-impermeable core and a soft, water-permeable outer layer surrounding the core. The particles afford both high specific pressure on a contact lens surface and textural softness, which diminishes surface abrasion.

    Assignee: Allergan
Inventors: Jiri S. Sulc, Joseph E. Vigh
  • Patent number: 5451398
Abstract: Ophthalmic compositions, such as those used to care for contact lenses, methods of preserving such compositions, and methods for disinfecting contact lenses using certain of such compositions are disclosed. The compositions may comprise an ophthalmically acceptable, liquid aqueous medium and, included therein, an effective preserving or disinfecting amount of a combination of certain oxygen-containing ionene polymers and one or more antimicrobial thiocyano components.
