  • Patent number: 6678718
Abstract: A system is provided for establishing a connection between a telephone agent and a computer user. A request is received from the user requesting a return call by an agent. The request is received through a web server and includes an identifier associated with the web page being viewed by the user. The identifier associated with the web page is transmitted to an agent that will contact the user. This allows the agent to view the web page that was being viewed by the user when the request was entered. A telephone connection is then established between the user and the agent. An agent can be selected based on the content of the web page being viewed by the user at the time the request for agent contact is entered. Additionally, for an incoming call, a web page can be generated that contains information about the incoming call. An identifier associated with the generated web page is transmitted to an agent that will answer the call. The agent then accesses the web page using the received identifier.

  • Patent number: 6665396
Abstract: A communications system having a module operable to a establish a communication channel coupling a terminal unit and a device, in response to a request from the device, is provided. A proxy system may be coupled with the module. In a particular embodiment, the proxy system is operable to receive the request from the device, and create a proxy agent if the terminal unit is unavailable. The proxy agent may also be operable to maintain a position in a queueing system for the device until the terminal unit becomes available. In another embodiment, the proxy system may be operable to notify the device when the terminal unit is available. The communications system may also include an interactive voice response system operable to collect information from the device. The information collected from the device may be used to establish a status, or priority of the request for a connection.

  • Patent number: 6088126
Abstract: Method for preventing a facsimile server from looping back on itself, the method including the steps of: (a) transmitting fax server identifier information during fax transmission setup; (b) analyzing the fax server identifier information to determine whether the fax server identifier information is the same as that of the fax server that is placing the call; and (c) if the fax server identifier information is the same, dropping the call, otherwise, continuing the call. In a preferred embodiment, the fax identifier information is transmitted in the NSF command of the facsimile communication protocol.

  • Patent number: 5222083
Abstract: Method for use in developing, testing, debugging, and/or troubleshooting a call progress monitoring (CPM) detection system which is utilized, for example, by a voice messaging system (VMS). One embodiment of the present invention which is utilized in conjunction with a VMS includes the steps of: (a) monitoring at least one voice channel of the VMS to obtain CPM tones and having a CPM Detection system associated with the VMS perform an analysis of the CPM tones, the output of which analysis is referred to as CPM Trace Variables; (b) storing the CPM tones and the CPM Trace Variables for the at least one voice channel, which stored CPM tones and CPM Trace Variables are referred to as a CPM Trace file; (c) obtaining a first voice channel; and (d) feeding the voice portion of the CPM Trace file to a second voice channel for playing it to the first voice channel.

  • Patent number: 5175761
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for initiating multiple call transfers from a Voice Mail System ("VMS") to telephone extensions on a Private Branch Exchange ("PBX") integrated with the VMS. A plurality of first lines between the PBX and the VMS provide voice communication between callers and the VMS via the PBX. The VMS includes an applications processor which is integrated (coupled) to the PBX via an integration link. The applications processor determines if at least one of a plurality of second lines in a hunt group are free, and transmits a command to the PBX to effect a call transfer to an extension on the PBX if at least one second line is found free. If no second line is found free, the applications processor places the transfer request in a queue. The plurality of second lines in the hunt group are searched in response to the PBX receiving the special command over the integration link to find a free second line.
