The compositions comprises a peptide which as an excess positive charge and self assembles into homopentamers. The homopentamers can non-covalently bind polynucleotides. When encapsulated in lipid systems, such as liposomes, the lipoproteoplexes so formed, are capable of delivering both nucleic acids and small molecules to cells.
