Publication number: 20230408447Abstract: Multi-dimensional Rydberg fingerprint spectroscopy can be used for chemical sensing in gaseous mixtures. A pulsed laser beam having a first wavelength can be delivered to a sample using a tunable pulsed excitation laser; and a pulsed laser beam having a second wavelength can be delivered to the sample point using a tunable pulsed transition laser. The pulsed laser beam having the first wavelength and the pulsed laser beam having the second wavelength have energy sufficient to excite an electron of a sample molecule to a Rydberg state. A level of ionization or light absorption can be detected at the sample point. The level of ionization or light absorption detected and the first and second wavelengths are used to determine the presence and identity of one or more chemicals in the sample of the gaseous mixture.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2021Publication date: December 21, 2023Inventors: Peter Weber, Joseph Geiser, Theis Solling, Ali A. Patent number: 11391171Abstract: Flow path assemblies having features for positioning the assemblies within a gas turbine engine are provided. For example, a flow path assembly comprises an inner wall and a unitary outer wall that includes an integral combustion portion and turbine portion, the combustor portion extending through a combustion section of the gas turbine engine and the turbine portion extending through at least a first turbine stage of a turbine section of the gas turbine engine. The flow path assembly further comprises at least two positioning members for radially centering the flow path assembly within the gas turbine engine. The positioning members extend to the flow path assembly from one or more structures external to the flow path assembly, constrain the flow path assembly tangentially, and allow radial and axial movement of the flow path assembly. Other embodiments for positioning flow path assemblies also are provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2019Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Brandon ALlanson Reynolds, Jonathan David Baldiga, Darrell Glenn Senile, Daniel Patrick Kerns, Michael Ray Tuertscher, Aaron Michael Dziech, Brett Joseph Geiser

Patent number: 10378770Abstract: Flow path assemblies and gas turbine engines are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a flow path assembly comprises an inner wall and a unitary outer wall including a combustor portion extending through a combustion section and a turbine portion extending through at least a first turbine stage of a turbine section. The combustor portion and the turbine portion are integrally formed as a single unitary structure. The inner wall and the unitary outer wall define a combustor of the combustion section. In another exemplary embodiment, a flow path assembly comprises a unitary inner wall defining an inner boundary of a flow path and extending from a forward end of a combustor through a nozzle portion of a first turbine stage, and a unitary outer wall defining an outer boundary of the flow path and extending from the forward end of the combustor through at least the first turbine stage.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2017Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Brandon ALlanson Reynolds, Jonathan David Baldiga, Andrew Scott Bilse, Mark Eugene Noe, Brett Joseph Geiser

Publication number: 20190203611Abstract: A combustor assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a dome defining a slot. The combustor assembly also includes a liner at least partially defining a combustion chamber and extending between an aft end and a forward end. At least a portion of the forward end is received within the slot of the dome. The forward end of the liner defines a plurality of warming holes that allow for a warming airflow to flow therethrough to warm the forward end at a faster rate during transient operating conditions of the engine thereby reducing transient stresses and increasing liner durability.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2018Publication date: July 4, 2019Inventors: Michael Alan Stieg, Nicholas John Bloom, Eric Ryan Newburn, Brett Joseph Geiser

Publication number: 20190203940Abstract: A combustor assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a dome defining a slot. The combustor assembly also includes a liner at least partially defining a combustion chamber and extending between an aft end and a forward end. The forward end is received within the slot of the dome. In one aspect, the forward end of the liner defines blind warming openings that allow a warming airflow to actively warm the forward end during transient operation of the engine. In another aspect, the dome defines a plurality of impingement openings that allow a warming airflow to impinge on the forward end to actively warm the liner during transient operation of the engine. In another aspect, a grommet coupling a pin with the liner defines a plurality of warming passages that allow a warming airflow to flow therethrough to warm the forward end of the liner during transient engine operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2018Publication date: July 4, 2019Inventors: Michael Alan Stieg, Nicholas John Bloom, Brett Joseph Geiser
