  • Patent number: 5510592
Abstract: A vacuum switching chamber includes a switching chamber housing having two housing parts. The two housing parts are constructed in the shape of pots or bells and each have a base which encloses an opening through which a respective supporting stalk passes. A stationary contact piece and a moving contact piece are each carried on a respective one of the stalks. The structural size of the vacuum switching chamber is reduced by inwardly drawn bases and furthermore, components and solder foils which would be used in addition to the cylindrical switching chamber housing are rendered unnecessary.

  • Patent number: 4636600
Abstract: An electrical vacuum switch is provided with two mutually movable contacts of conductive material, mounted on the ends of a fixed or movable contact rod, with a laminated horseshoe-shaped ferromagnetic element being fitted around each contact rod. The magnetic circuit around the contact rod consists of a section of low magnetic resistance and a section of a high magnetic resistance. The circular base of the U-shaped inner cavity of the horseshoe-shaped element is adjacent to the associated contact rod and the elements are offset through 180.degree. C. with respect to each other, so that the internal magnetic fields generated in the horseshoe-shaped elements when current passes through the switch, to the extent that the section with high magnetic resistance is approached, are mainly oriented axially between the two horseshoe-shaped elements.

  • Patent number: 4436241
Abstract: Method for vacuum-tight butt joining by brazing a stainless steel part to a ceramic part, in particular stainless steel end caps to a ceramic housing of a vacuum switch, in which the stainless steel part is annealed prior to the brazing step and the portion of the stainless steel part directly adjoining the ceramic part at the brazing joint location is of a thickness not exceeding 0.8 mm and a height between about 4 and 12 mm.

  • Patent number: 4331850
Abstract: A vacuum switch comprising a vacuum tight envelope accommodating in vacuum contacts mounted on current carrying contact rods and capable of movement with respect to each other as well as a getter device, comprising a getter element provided with a getter material which may absorb optionally present gases upon evaporation thereof by the application of heat generated by an induced current, a metal shield arranged between the getter device and the insulated walls of the vacuum switch, said shield functioning as the surface on which the getter material is deposited and being provided with slots preventing the occurrence of eddy currents in the shield and in that the getter element emits the getter material by evaporation at a single location only, this location and the location of the slots in the shield are situated with respect to each other in such a manner that the contact rod carrying both the getter device and the shield will keep the getter material from emanating beyond said shield.

  • Patent number: 4115672
Abstract: A vacuum switch comprises an evacuated electrically conducting cylindrical envelope having two movable contact elements therein making electrical contact with one another in a closed condition of the switch and being separated by an electrical insulating gap in the open condition of the switch. The gap is symmetrically disposed with respect to the contact axis of the cylindrical envelope and an electro-magnetic coil is disposed coaxially around the envelope and connected in series with the two contact elements such that in the closed condition of the switch an axial magnetic field is produced in the region of the current passage between the closed contact elements. The ends of the electro-magnetic coil are connected to respective electrically conducting joining rings, one of which is connected to the cylindrical envelope, and the other of which is connected to an electrically conducting disc having a central bore in which the first central conductor is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4109122
Abstract: An evacuated envelope contains two stationary contact elements which have an gap therebetween, and positioned within the gap are two metal discs separated by an insulating disc. Each metal disc is connected to a terminal coil which is connected to an electromagnetic coil operative to produce a magnetic field in the region of the gap and substantially in parallel with the width of the gap. A U-shaped contact element is positioned with the envelope to move into and out of contact with each of the stationary contact elements. The stationary contact elements are each connected to separate contact rods which extend through the envelope walls to the outside.
