  • Patent number: 5538464
Abstract: A disposable abrasive wheel for mounting on a rotatable threaded spindle of a power tool. The abrasive wheel contains a retaining nut on one side and a backing member on the other side non-removably secured together on the abrasive wheel without the aid of adhesives in such a manner that the abrasive wheel is placed in compression when it is operably secured upon the spindle of the power tool under operative loads. A metal pressure cap extends outwardly from the backing member and has an upper flat surface for engaging a should formed on the spindle of the power tool during operation of the finishing article. The metal pressure cap includes an inner surface defining a plurality of grooves. A peripheral wall extends upwardly from the retaining nut into the pressure cap and includes portions thereof disposed within said grooves.

  • Patent number: 5152106
Abstract: A disposable cut-off wheel for mounting on a rotatable threaded spindle which may be used with a power tool. The cut-off wheel includes a central aperture which contains a threaded nut having a flange at one end non-removably secured thereto without the aid of adhesives in such a manner that the cut-off wheel is placed in compression when it is operably secured upon the spindle under operational loads. The nut is secured to the cut-off wheel by upsetting one end of the nut causing it to protrude outwardly over the rear surface of the cut-off wheel or into engagement with the aperture. A generally inverted cup shaped supporting flange is carried by the spindle for engaging the outer surface of the cut-off wheel during operation of the cut-off wheel. A plastic washer like insert member is received within and carried by the supporting flange and provides a bearing between the lip of the supporting flange and the cut-off wheel.

  • Patent number: 5031361
Abstract: A disposable finishing article for mounting on a rotatable threaded spindle of a power tool. The finishing article contains a retaining nut on one side and a backing member on the other side non-removably secured together on the finishing article without the aid of adhesives in such a manner that the finishing article is placed in compression when it is operably secured upon the spindle of the power tool under operative loads. The backing member includes an inner annular portion defining a platform surrounding the nut and having one surface resting upon the other side of the finishing article. The nut and backing member are secured together by upsetting one end of the nut causing it to protrude outwardly over the outer surface of the flange. A metal pressure cap is secured to the backing member for engaging a shoulder formed on the spindle of the power tool during operation of the finishing article.

  • Patent number: 4149294
Abstract: A buffing pad wherein a layer of fabric has tufting material stitched therein and extending outwardly from one side thereof. A layer of adhesive which is flexible after it has set is applied to the surface of the fabric opposite that from which the tufting material extends. A metallic washer having a centrally formed screw thread therein is sandwiched between the adhesive material and a backing layer. The backing layer has an outer edge which is displaced inwardly from the outer edge of the fabric layer by a substantial amount. The outer peripheral portion of the fabric layer along with the adhesive material which extends to the outer edge thereof is curved upwardly and the curved portion is maintained solely by the adhesive material.
