  • Patent number: 5264822
Abstract: A system for delivering audio advertising messages to shopping carts moving through a plurality of spatially defined transmission zones arranged in the aisles of a store. In the illustrative embodiment, a plurality of transmitters of compact construction are each attached to a shelf within the store. Each shelf transmitter has a spatially defined transmission zone of selected geometry and predetermined dimensions so as to occupy an assigned region of space within one of the aisles in the store. When any one of these transmitters detects a shopping cart residing in its spatially defined transmission zone, the transmitter transmits over its spatially defined transmission zone, a modulated signal carrying an audio message provided by a playback mechanism within the transmitter. A receiver on the detected shopping cart demodulates the received modulated carrier signal and produces an audible signal of the audio message provided by the playback mechanism in the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4758234
Abstract: A carpule system for the microadministration of viscous fluid including a carpule syringe comprising a stainless steel delivery needle having an interior diameter in the range of from about 0.004 inches to about 0.007 inches and a generally cylindrical fluid containing carpule. The carpule has a bore with a cross-sectional area which is about 100 to 400 times greater than the cross-sectional area of the bore of the delivery needle and a movable plug sealing the fluid within the carpule. The needle is secured to one end of the carpule and a generally cylindrical housing member is adapted to receive the carpule, the housing member having means on one end for retaining the one end of the carpule. An adapter member is secured to the other end of the housing member to secure the other end of the carpule and adapter retention means are provided for securing the adapter member to the other end of the housing member.

  • Patent number: 4664655
Abstract: The present invention provides a syringe for the administration of small amounts of high viscosity fluid having a barrel and a delivery needle having substantially the same inside diameter. It is preferred that the barrel comprise a stainless steel tube. A generally cylindrical housing member having openings at each end of the housing and threads on one end for attaching the housing member to the barrel. An adapter member, secured to the other end of the housing member, receives and supports the other end of the barrel. A cap secures the adapter member to the other end of the housing member. A plunger is adapted for axial displacement within the barrel, and has a plunger tip which is chemically inert with respect to the fluid and which is adapted to slidingly engage the interior surface of the barrel and to seal the fluid within the barrel. A finger grip and a thumb grip facilitate movement of the plunger relative to the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4332981
Abstract: A cordless telephone system in which a communications path is established and maintained between a base and a remote unit with the transmission of a binary coded pulse train. Maintenance of the communications path in this manner does not require multiple carrier signals and avoids interference between adjacent remote units. A microphone switch is also provided that prevents accidental turn-on of the remote unit, thus preventing accidental battery depletion.

  • Patent number: 4144763
Abstract: A non-invasive method for the measurement of body fat which may be used to measure living objects. A pair of airtight chambers are used to measure the body volume which is determined by the change in pressure resulting from the presence of the body in an enclosed chamber and utilizing Boyle's law. The second chamber in which the object is to be placed may be of known or unknown volume and hence can be adjustable. The fat fraction of the body is computed from the known relationship between body density and fat.

  • Patent number: 3958570
Abstract: In a syringe or syringe capsule, particularly for micro-administration of highly viscous liquids, there are provided a zero or negative allowance between the barrel and the plunger and a low friction, resilient interface between the barrel and the plunger. There is thus provided a high pressure-resistant seal which, nevertheless, permits manual operation of the syringe with a reasonable amount of force.
