  • Patent number: 4178337
Abstract: A single screw extrusion process for extruding a mixture of relatively high molecular weight thermoplastic elastomer particles and relatively low molecular weight resin particles, wherein the particulate mixture is supercooled and maintained at temperatures below that which would cause the mixture to agglomerate and stick to the screw until the axial driving forces on the mixture have increased to the extent they will overcome any tendency of the mixture to stick to the screw, thereby assuring steady state extrusion conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 18, 1977
Date of Patent: December 11, 1979
    Assignee: Johnson & Johnson
Inventors: Joseph J. Hall, Ralf Korpman, Stephen M. Sinker
  • Patent number: 3984509
Abstract: A process for extruding thermoplastic elastomeric film using a single screw extruder to extrude a particular type of a potentially sticky dry particulate mixture comprising relatively high molecular weight thermoplastic elastomer particles and relatively low molecular weight resin particles wherein the particulate mixture is fed starved, advanced axially, and prevented from sticking to the screw by mechanically displacing the mixture rotatively with respect to the screw in a prescribed portion of the feed section of the extruder, thereby preventing surging or uneven extrusion due to irregular feeding of the potentially sticky mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1975
Date of Patent: October 5, 1976
    Assignee: Johnson & Johnson
Inventors: Joseph J. Hall, Ralf Korpman
