Patent number: 9433672Abstract: Methods for making and using therapeutic formulations of Proteosome-based immunoactive compositions are provided. The immunogenic compositions, which include Proteosomes and liposaccharides, may be used to elicit or enhance a nonspecific innate immune response to, for example, treat or prevent infectious disease. In addition, after activating the innate immune system, immunogenic compositions further containing an antigen may be used to elicit a specific adaptive immune response. Furthermore, provided are compositions capable of altering hyperreactive responses or inflammatory immune responses, such as allergic reactions. Such compositions may be used as a prophylactic, or in various clinical settings to treat or prevent infectious disease (such as parasite, fungal, bacterial or viral infections), or to alter inappropriate inflammatory immune responses (such as allergic reactions or asthma).Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2014Date of Patent: September 6, 2016Assignee: ID Biomedical Corporation of QuebecInventors: George H. Lowell, David S. Burt, David Hugh Jones, Joseph J. Zimmermann, Clement Rioux

Patent number: 5830726Abstract: The cloning of the heparinase gene from Flavobacterium Heparinum using the polymerase chain reaction is described. The Open Reading Frame (ORF) corresponded to 1152 base pairs encoding a precursor protein of MW 43,800 daltons. The amino acid sequence reveals a 20-residue leader peptide. The gene was expressed in two expression systems in E. coli.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1995Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Ramnath Sasisekharan, Kelley Moremen, Charles I. Cooney, Joseph J. Zimmermann, Robert S. Langer

Patent number: 5338677Abstract: A heparinase derived from Flavobacterium heparinum which meets all requirements for a clinical reagent that can eliminate heparin interference of normal blood function has been developed. The heparinase, derived from Flavobacterium heparinum, is free of a component that inhibits coagulation wherein the anticoagulant component does not bind, and the heparinase does bind, to a polysulfated resin having a pH of 7.0 and a conductivity between 3 and 12 mmhos. It is stable under normal manufacturing, shipping and clinical storage conditions for at least one year. The heparinase in useful in vitro to eliminate the interference in hematological assays due to the presence of heparin. The heparinase is also useful for the in vivo neutralization of heparin during surgical procedures. Advantages of this enzyme are that it achieves neutralization faster and more completely than previously available enzymes and is stable for long periods of time.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Ibex Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Joseph J. Zimmermann, N. Tracey Lewis, Robert A. Heft

Patent number: 4054924Abstract: A recording playback device employing an endless tape loop as the recording media. In response to a tone signal recorded on the tape, a simple mechanism provides a fast forward operation mode to return the recording tape to its beginning.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1975Date of Patent: October 18, 1977Assignee: GTE Automatic Electric Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: Joseph J. Zimmermann

Patent number: 3988542Abstract: Apparatus in an automatic telephone answering device utilizing a single motor for scanning a tone arm across a grooveless recording disc to selectively play back a message magnetically recorded thereon in a spiral path as well as for rotating the turntable. The apparatus includes an electromagnetic clutch powered by a positive belt drive coupled to the motor for driving a spirally contoured cam to transport the tone arm across the disc. A control circuit including an optoelectronic switch positioned adjacent the edge of the turntable to receive light reflected from a reflective spot on the turntable edge is also provided to initiate scanning by the tone arm coincident with the reflective spot passing by the optoelectronic switch. This insures that the tone arm transducer will begin scanning at the same point for each subsequent playback and/or record operation and, as a result, track the spiral recording path on the grooveless disc.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1975Date of Patent: October 26, 1976Assignee: GTE Automatic Electric Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: Joseph J. Zimmermann

Patent number: 3953680Abstract: Apparatus for remotely controlling automatic telephone answering devices or the like to transcribe message information magnetically recorded by the telephone answering apparatus. The apparatus includes an oscillator coupled to an input/output transducer for generating a tone of a predetermined frequency which is coupled via a telephone to the automatic telephone answering apparatus. The tone switches the answering apparatus into a high speed rewind mode wherein the message information is not muted. The message information is recorded in reverse on a magnetic tape in the transcribing apparatus by a tape transport mechanism transporting the tape in a forward direction during a record operation. During playback, the tape transport mechanism transports the tape in the reverse direction so that the reverse recorded message information is played back in an intelligible manner to convey the recorded message information.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1974Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: GTE Automatic Electric Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: Joseph J. Zimmermann

Patent number: 3931470Abstract: Apparatus in a remotely controlled telephone answering device providing an audio or voice message indicating the time elapsed or, alternatively, the amount of tape used in recording telephone messages. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a recording medium such as a magnetic tape having the positional information pre-recorded thereon in a first channel and having a second channel for recording telephone messages. A playback head having first and second magnetic transducers respectively aligned with the first and second channels is coupled to a playback amplifier through a head switching relay. The relay is remotely controlled to selectively couple the transducers, one at a time, to the playback amplifier for playing back the positional information and the recorded messages.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1974Date of Patent: January 6, 1976Assignee: GTE Automatic Electric Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: Joseph J.
