  • Patent number: 7152268
Abstract: A corrugated box finishing machine has a station where dust, debris and other particles are cleaned from the corrugated boards before they are conveyed to the printing station. Electrostatic charges on the particles are neutralized by a static bar and the particles are then removed from the boards by a rotating brush. The particles are drawn into a vacuum chamber underlying the path of conveyance of the boards, and the static bar is positioned in an enclosure in proximity to the boards but isolated from the vacuum in the vacuum chamber. The enclosure has surfaces which direct the particles away from the static bar which is oriented to further minimize contact with the removed particles. The cleaning brush includes a plurality of brush sections mounted on a rotatable shaft made from carbon fiber material.

    Assignee: Sun Automation, Inc.

  • Patent number: 6508751
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing container board having a corrugated medium and at least one liner formed thereon for folding which comprises a tool for displacing in a non-destructive manner the corrugated medium and the liner in a portion of the board to form a curved indentation therein. The device includes a separate tool for forming a line of weakness in the liner along the curved indentation portion of the board. This arrangement increases the dimensional accuracy of the container board by substantially eliminating the occurrences of “false” score lines or rolling scores.

  • Patent number: 6012391
Abstract: A fluid delivery apparatus for applying a fluid composition uniformly to the circumferential surface of a rotating transfer roll comprises a fountain having a chamber. A drain is located in a lower portion of the chamber near one end. Doctor blades meter the surface of the anilox roll. A plurality of inlet ports introduce fluid into the chamber. Each inlet port is downwardly angled toward the drain such that fluid flowing through the inlet port displaces fluid in the lower portion of chamber toward the drain end of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5772787
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for cleaning and maintaining measuring devices, in particular viscosity and pH devices, for water based Flexo inks wherein the device for measuring a parameter of the inks are mounted to a platform such as a lid adapted to cover either a cleaning container or an ink container. A cylinder raises and lowers the lid and the device for measuring a parameter of the inks in and out of the cleaning container or the ink container. A carriage carrying the cleaning container and adapted to receive the ink container moves horizontally when the lid is raised such that either the ink container or the cleaning container underlies the lid and the measuring devices. With the lid lowered on to the cleaning container, the device for measuring a parameter of the inks are washed and rinsed in the cleaning container. The device for measuring a parameter of the inks are stored in the cleaning container until returned to the ink container for use.

  • Patent number: 5657694
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for loading a wiper roll against an anilox roll, wherein the wiper roll and the anilox roll each have a longitudinal rotational axis. The wiper roll is rotated about its longitudinal rotational axis and moved in a translational direction towards the anilox roll. A controller detects rotational movement of the anilox roll and stops the translation movement of the wiper roll towards the anilox roll at a specific time after detecting the rotational movement of the anilox roll in order to properly load the wiper roll against the anilox roll.
