  • Patent number: 9582506
Abstract: Technologies pertaining to conversion of declarative statements written in a domain-specific language to data that is playable by a rich interactive narrative (RIN) player are described herein. A web browser can be configured to support a RIN player. Source code of a web page includes an indication that the RIN player is to be invoked, declarative statements written in the domain-specific language, and data that identifies a network-accessible location of a converter. The converter is configured to convert declarative statements in the domain-specific language to RIN data that is playable by the RIN player. Thus, a developer of a web page can utilize declarative statements in the domain-specific language to cause a RIN to be included in a web page.

  • Patent number: 8046691
Abstract: A multimedia system specifies a multimedia experience stream by a narrative definition that defines a narrative presentation having sub-narratives. Each sub-narrative may incorporate multiple streams of different types of media with each stream defining a “path” through content of that media type. The multimedia system directs the presentation of the sub-narratives by interfacing with presentation components for each media type through a custom interface component for that media type that implements a common application interface. When a user pauses a presentation, the user can manually navigate around the content of a stream from the current location at the time of the pause to another location. When the user resumes the presentation, the multimedia system automatically transitions from the navigated-to location to the current location at the time of the pause to resume the presentation from where it was paused.

  • Patent number: 7917900
Abstract: A source code clarification system is described. In various embodiments, the source code clarification system receives clarified source code and transforms the clarified source code into standard source code or object code that implements asynchronous components. The standard software source code can contain expressions for enabling asynchronous communications. The clarified code can be software source code that is expressed in an imperative language and is capable of static analysis. The clarified source code can contain a coordination primitive that encapsulates interactions between asynchronous components. By using the coordination primitives and events, the clarified source code can express interactions between asynchronous components so that the clarified source code is easier for developers to understand and for static analysis tools to analyze.

  • Patent number: 7877251
Abstract: A document translation system is described. In various embodiments, the document translation system improves translations of text or speech (“documents”) that are performed by computing devices (“machine translations”). Upon translating a document into a target language, the system can provide a user interface containing both the original document and a translated document. The translated document can include portions that are translated automatically by a machine translation service, and other portions that have been amended or modified by users. Upon providing the translated document, the system may receive input from a user describing portions of the translated document that should be modified. These modifications may then be stored in corpora that the document translation system can employ during future requests to translate the document.

  • Patent number: 7631100
Abstract: A system and methods for carrying out point-to-point intracluster communications between hosts is provided. The disclosed system enables communication protocol layer components of hosts within a cluster to continue to operate in a cluster mode while facilitating such point-to-point communications. Initially, address discovery provides the non-cluster mode address for a target host. Thereafter, an initiating/source host issues a message including the non-cluster mode address of the target host. A network load balancing layer, or any other suitable component within the target host, intercepts the message and substitutes a cluster address for the non-cluster mode address within the message destination field before the message is presented to the communication protocol layer of the target host.

  • Publication number: 20090037403
Abstract: A location identification system is described. In various embodiments, the location identification system identifies geographic location information in response to received search queries by processing geographic information to identify spatial or geometric regions, determining region intersection information that identifies spatial relationships between the geometric regions, and building an index of regions of constant attributes by associating intersecting geometric regions. In various embodiments, the location identification system can include a vector database wherein the vector database comprises geometric information including at least (a) spatial information geographically describing items and their locations and (b) textual attributes associated with the items or their locations, and an index of regions of constant attributes wherein the index associates textual attributes with items and their locations so that a proximity of two locations can be identified.

  • Patent number: 7380002
Abstract: A new network load balancing/firewall node for use in a system including multiple network load balancing/firewall nodes is disclosed. The network load balancing/firewall applies bi-directional load balancing affinity with regard to requests from external clients and corresponding responses from internal network servers. An external network load balancing adapter executes a load-balancing algorithm to determine whether a received client request is accepted by the network load balancing/firewall node. A firewall utility processes the received client request and maintains state information associated with the received client request. An internal network load balancing adapter ensures that the same network load balancing/firewall node accepts a response from an internal network server corresponding to the received client request.

  • Publication number: 20070155409
Abstract: Users can send short message service (SMS) communication with the purpose of the communication being implied therein. An SMS broker described herein can derive the implied purpose by parsing the communication at least in part according to defined set of rules of syntax and in light of a current context within which the communication was received. In one aspect, the communication is brokered via the SMS broker and it may be intended as a message to be sent to another user identified by a moniker, such as their e-mail alias, which has the advantage of avoiding the need to store phone numbers on memory-constrained devices. In another aspect, the communication is a request for user data of other users also identified in the request by a simple moniker such as their e-mail alias. Additionally, a user can also send a communication intended to update their own user information such as their current location, availability and so on.
