  • Patent number: 6642280
Abstract: A control scheme is set forth for conversion of variable composition synthesis gas to liquid fuels in a three-phase or slurry bubble column reactor (SBCR). The control scheme allows one to achieve constant or optimum liquid fuel production and constant or limited purge gas flow with highly variable synthesis gas feed condition. This is accomplished by adjusting one or more of the following independent variables: recycle ratio, water addition, and bypass flow.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 2001
Date of Patent: November 4, 2003
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5806298
Abstract: The power output of a gas turbine is increased by vaporizing a liquid coolant fuel at the inlet of the air compressor, which cools the air and increases the mass throughput of the compressor. The method preferably is used in a gas turbine-driven power generation system for increased power output and particularly during periods of high ambient temperatures or at a high site elevation. The liquid coolant fuel also can be introduced simultaneously into the gas turbine combustor to supplement the normal combustor fuel.

  • Patent number: 5220112
Abstract: Fly ash generated from incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW) when placed in landfills can under mild acid conditions leach lead and cadmium. A process for stabilizing lead in this fly ash is presented which involves calcining a mixture of the fly ash and certain calcium-containing compounds in the presence of an oxygen containing gas stream at a temperature greater than about 475.degree. C. and substantially less than about 800.degree. C. for times from about 30 minutes up to about 5 hours. Such treated MSW fly ash will give leachates containing lead concentrations less than the EPA regulatory limit.

  • Patent number: 5220111
Abstract: Fly ash generated from incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW) when placed in landfills under mild acid conditions can leach lead and cadmium. A process for stabilizing heavy metals in this fly ash is presented which involves calcining in the presence of an oxygen containing gas stream at a temperature greater than about 375.degree. C. and substantially less than about 800.degree. C. for times from about 170 seconds up to about 5 hours fly ash which has been subjected to lime scrubbing for acid gas removal. Such treated MSW fly ash will give leachates containing heavy metal concentrations less than the EPA regulatory limit.

  • Patent number: 5052310
Abstract: A process is disclosed for controlling the combustion and temperature in an solid waste-to-steam incineration system comprising a grated combustion zone and a steam boiler. This control is achieved by a synergistic combination of oxygen enrichment of an air stream and liquid quench fed to the combustion zone. The disclosed process includes the steps of adjusting the amount of solid waste passing into the combustion zone in order to maintain a constant flow of steam leaving the steam boiler, adjusting the amount of liquid quench to the incinerator in order to maintain a constant temperature in the combustion zone and adjusting the amount of oxygen enrichment of the air stream in response to a change in flow of the liquid quench to the incinerator. An apparatus for accomplishing the foregoing is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4946477
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvement to a process for the production of methanol from synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen utilizing a three phase or liquid-phase reaction technology. The improvement to the process is the addition of relatively small amounts of water to the liquid-phase reactor thereby allowing for the use of a CO-rich synthesis gas for the production of methanol by effectuating in the same reactor the methanol synthesis and water-gas shift reactions. A portion of the unreacted synthesis gas stream from the liquid-phase reactor is separated into a hydrogen-rich component and a carbon monoxide-rich component.

  • Patent number: 4358364
Abstract: An upgraded benzene-synthetic natural gas product is produced from hydrocarbon gas condensate feedstock by catalytically reforming a C.sub.6 -300.degree. F. B.P. fraction and hydrogasifying the remainder of the feedstock. The overall efficiency of the process is enhanced by dealkylation of certain intermediate streams in the process and by recycling certain other aromatic and hydrogen-rich streams within the process.
