  • Patent number: 11203202
Abstract: An inkjet printhead includes a faceplate mounted to a printhead body. The faceplate has a first area in which an array of inkjet nozzle openings is positioned. The area is covered with a hydrophobic coating. A second area of the faceplate outside of the array of inkjet nozzle openings is covered with a first hydrophilic coating that does not contact the hydrophobic coating covering the first area. A third area of the faceplate between the first area and the second area is covered with a second hydrophilic coating. One end of the third area contacts the hydrophobic coating and another end of the third area contacts the first hydrophilic coating to pull ink emitted onto the hydrophobic coating during a purge operation to the second area of the faceplate.

  • Patent number: 11052648
Abstract: A printer is configured with an actuator to rotate a platen about an axis perpendicular to the surface of the platen and an encoder that generates angular data corresponding to the rotation of the platen. A controller operates the actuator to rotate the platen while monitoring the angular data generated by the encoder to ensure accurate rotation of the platen after each layer of an object is printed. By forming successive layers at different angles to one another, the structural integrity of the object is improved over previously known printed objects and the effects of defective ejectors are mitigated without having to substitute operational ejectors for the defective ejectors.

  • Patent number: 10696051
Abstract: Devices and processes include/use an inkjet printhead, a sheet transport positioned to move sheets of media past the inkjet printhead, a sheet registration device positioned to align the sheets of media, and a controller electrically connected to the inkjet printhead and the sheet registration device. The controller is adapted to periodically control the sheet registration device to align a first sacrificial sheet with a first edge of the sheet transport and align a second sacrificial sheet with a second edge of the sheet transport and that is opposite the first edge. The controller is adapted to control the inkjet printhead to eject ink from a first set of nozzles to the first sacrificial sheet and eject ink from a second set of nozzles to the second sacrificial sheet. The first set of nozzles contains different nozzles from the second set of nozzles.

  • Patent number: 10442219
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for mitigating print head dry out. In an example embodiment, a system can be implemented, which includes an arrangement of cross rollers and a registration transport for transporting one or more sheets for printing, and a steering mechanism that drives the sheet(s) into the opposing registration print edges of print heads on the registration transportation, wherein the cross rollers only engage when the sheet is being registered to the appropriate edge of the print heads, thereby allowing the print heads to be exercised prior to drying out. When one or more of the sheets are out of the nip, the nip disengages, thereby allowing the next sheet to be stirred on the opposing edge of the registration print heads. The opposing registration print heads comprise an inboard registration edge and an outboard registration edge.

  • Patent number: 10391757
Abstract: A printer is configured with positioning members that hold components at predetermined positions to enable a controller operating at least one printhead in a three-dimensional object printer to form structure about the components. • Publication number: 20190248130
Abstract: Devices include electrically conductive elements contacting a vacuum belt, and a voltage source connected to the electrically conductive elements. The electrically conductive elements form an electrical circuit from the voltage source, through the belt, and back to the voltage source. The electrically conductive elements are positioned so that they are separated from the belt when the belt moves the sheets of media between the electrically conductive elements and the belt. A processor is capable of identifying leading edges of the sheets of media on the belt (when voltage of the electrical circuit changes from a relatively higher voltage to a relatively lower voltage) and identifying trailing edges of the sheets of media on the belt (when the voltage of the electrical circuit changes from the relatively lower voltage back to the relatively higher voltage).

  • Patent number: 10329109
Abstract: A sheet registration system includes a transport member on which a sheet is conveyed in a process direction, a vacuum shuttle, and a feedback system. The vacuum shuttle includes a vacuum head which applies suction to the sheet and actuators for rotating the vacuum head in a plane parallel to a plane of the transport member and translating the vacuum head in a cross-process direction. In response to feedback instructions generated by the feedback system, the actuators move the vacuum head, relative to the transport member, while the vacuum is applied to the sheet. The sheet registration system is suitable for use in a printer for reducing skew and lateral offset of sheets of print media.

  • Patent number: 9707713
Abstract: A method for printing a package substrate prior to molding the package substrate into a desired shape. The present teachings include printing an aqueous ink onto a sacrificial carrier to form an ink pattern, and then drying the ink pattern on the carrier. The carrier and ink pattern are aligned with a package substrate and placed into a mold fixture. The ink pattern is transferred to the package substrate within the mold fixture during the molding of the package substrate into the desired shape. The ink pattern may be transferred from the sacrificial carrier to the package substrate using, for example, a dye sublimation (dye diffusion) process.

  • Publication number: 20170067832
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to using color calibration to improve and increase the accuracy of interpreting color-sensitive results from test strips made of substrates like paper. This is accomplished via a diagnostic test unit including a substrate, at least one region on the substrate, a reagent placed within the region to react, and a series of color legends on the substrate. Different reagent samples may be placed on the separate regions of a substrate for testing. An imaging device is used to capture the reaction results. More precise readings can be obtained by comparing the reaction results to the color legends to determine the measured property of the analyte.
