  • Patent number: 5904016
Abstract: For trimming a drywall corner, a drywall-trimming article has an elongate portion and two flange portions, which are extruded unitarily with the elongate portion from polyvinyl chloride. The elongate portion has an arcuate profile. Each flange portion has an array of apertures. One of the convex and concave surfaces defined by the central portion is covered substantially with discrete fibers, which adhere to the substantially covered surface but which do not cover the remaining surfaces of the central portion and of the flange portions. Such adhering fibers facilitate application of a coat of paint and texturization of the coat of paint over the substantially covered surface without separating the inner surfaces of the flange portions from the underlying drywall by any appreciable thicknesses due to such adhering fibers.

  • Patent number: 5813179
Abstract: In a drywall corner-trimming assembly, a splice is employed with two corner-trimming members, which approximate each other at one end of each member. Each member has a central portion and two flanged portions. With the splice straddling the members, a portion of one expansive surface of the splice faces the interior surface of the central portion of each member, which portion is located where the splice has at least one of the perforations. An adhesive layer is interposed between the same one of the expansive surfaces of the splice and the interior surfaces of the central portions of the members and is ventilated by the perforations.

  • Patent number: 5740642
Abstract: In a drywall corner-trimming assembly providing a "bullnose" configuration, two corner-trimming members and a splice are combined. Each member has a central portion and two flanged portions. The central portion has a generally arcuate profile. Each of the flanged portions extends from one of the lateral edges of the central portion at a step defining a lateral limit of a concave surface of the central portion. The members and the splice are assembled so that the splice straddles such members, so that a portion of one of the expansive surfaces of the splice faces the concave surface of the central portion of each of such members, so that the splice is concealed at least substantially by the central portions of such members are viewed, and so that each of the lateral edges of the elongate splice is pressed firmly against the step at one of the lateral edges of the central portion of each of said members. The splice is secured adhesively to the members, as by adhesive ribbons.

  • Patent number: 5481845
Abstract: An improved, elongate, flexible corner for trimming a curved surface, such as a cylindrical surface of a building column, comprises an elongate angle extruded from a relatively hard but flexible, polymeric material and an elongate strip extruded from a relatively soft but pliable, polymeric material. The elongated angle and the elongate strip are coextruded respectively from polyvinyl chloride having different durometer hardnessess. The elongate angle has a first, relatively wide, relatively thick flange with a distal edge and a proximal edge and a second, relatively narrow, relatively thin flange with a distal edge and a proximal edge, which is unitary with the proximal edge of the first flange. The second flange extends from the first flange, approximately at a right angle relative to the first flange when the flexible corner is unstressed. Each of the first and second flanges has an inner surface and an outer surface and the inner surfaces define approximately a right angle relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5477643
Abstract: A panel edge-finishing accessory which is useful as an expansion joint between two drywall panels comprises three integrally joined, elongate strips, namely two relatively rigid, lateral strips and a relatively pliable, middle strip, which may be respectively coextruded from polyvinyl chloride having different durometer hardnesses. Each lateral strip has a broad portion with a distal edge and a proximal edge, a rib with a distal edge and a proximal edge merging with the proximal edge of such lateral strip, and a tear-away flange joined integrally to the distal edge of the rib at a preferentially weakened juncture. The middle strip has a zig-zag profile and is joined integrally at each of its opposite edges to the distal edge of the rib of one of the lateral strips. The ribs extend so as to be generally normal to the lateral strips and are used for guiding a tool used to apply drywall-finishing material over the lateral strips.

  • Patent number: 5313755
Abstract: A drywall corner-finishing accessory comprises three integrally joined, elongate strips, namely two relatively rigid, lateral strips and a relatively pliable, middle strip coextruded respectively from polyvinyl chloride having different durometer hardnesses. Each lateral strip has a rib along one edge. At its opposite edges, the middle strip is joined to the lateral strips at the distal edges of the ribs, preferably being joined to lateral surfaces of the ribs, so that a broad surface of the middle strip is stepped from the lateral strips. The accessory is flexible along the middle strip selectively to define a stepped, inside corner and to define a stepped, outside corner. The rib of each lateral strip guides a drywall-finishing tool and has a grooved pocket opening toward the distal edge of such lateral strip to receive drywall-finishing material.

  • Patent number: 5243797
Abstract: A wall construction comprises a ceiling or wall structure having an exposed surface, a drywall panel having an edge near such surface, and an accessory comprising a bead for finishing the edge and a separate, removable strip for masking a portion of such surface to prevent drywall finishing material or paint from being deposited on the masked portion. The bead has a generally L-shaped profile with a surface-engaging leg secured to and engaged with a panel surface, with an edge-covering leg extended inwardly over the panel edge, and with a generally U-shaped lip joining the legs. A generally J-shaped portion of the edge-covering leg defines a channel opening toward the lip, grasping an inner portion of the strip releasably, and having an edge spaced inwardly from the lip. An outer portion of the strip extends beyond the lip and performs such masking function.
